Don't tempt me! I already had thought about trying that but I don't think the anti christ is getting a fan until after the bash, providing that she still lives.

EP, due to the voltage requirment of a CPU fan I dont think you're going to get the speed you want.

I think your best bet is going to be a 300 or smaller motor with an rc type fan blade on it. maybe even a high speed micro motor from an X-mod or the likes. I tryed the CPU idea, and I couldn't get enough voltage form a 9'er to get it to turn worth a damn.

You know at my LHS they sell micor plane engines used.. I can get em from $8-$15 I could just imagine starting a tiny micro Nitro before you start your big one lol...

I thought about making a micro swamp buggy with one of those engines. at $15 for the biggest one it would be cheap heh.

Dude I definately know what you are saying but I am going to try it anyway. Worst case scenario is does not work but I will have checked it off the list. Maybe a little modification might be in order to the fan blades tp make them spin faster might work too. I'll find out in a few hours after radio shack opens.

Dude, I'm am all about personalization and creativity. Don't listen to anybody knockin your ideas. I've only been doin this since x-mas but it doesn't take a moron to realize whether your havin fun or not. Now here's a link to something you'd like to see I'm sure... they don't exactly have a great reputation with some of the're other offerings but at least you know the idea has been on the table before. I do believe the fans fins are facing such as the rotation actually blows UP... pulling hot air out of the center of the head.

I think you know about my DrifTMaxx project. At one point in time I was wondering if it would be possible (actually anythings possible if you got the means) to somehow hook up the front driveshaft to a cooling fan. I thought that it might be possible for the engine to get too hot while drifting a lot (high engine rpm's with reduced vehicle speed). Anyways, it was just a thought. Have fun with it and let us (those who care) know how things turn out.

Small fans are easily available (1" - 2" diameter).

Problem is, they need at least 5V to run and the airflow is very poor, OK for warm electrical components but hardly adequate for cooling a hot IC engine.

I think a NACA duct in the roof panel on the bodyshell might work better.

I'm all for experimenting tho' and would be very interested to see the results.

I'm all for it! I'm just wondering what kind of a fan works high speed on lower voltage.

Here's what I was really thinking. Those squirell cage fans. They move some serious air at low RPM. I used a couple for a overclocking rig I built. They are like a furnace, or a duct fan but smaller..lemme see if I ken find a link. Her'e's a pic of those squirel cae fans.. they move a LOT of air

A computer store that supplies small parts and custom parts like that. That is a centrifugal fan... they are extremely efficient and move an enormous amount of air compared to traditional blade fans of same or close size. Not that it matters in this application, but they are much quieter as well.

Always go to Comp USA or Best Buy first. I only buy from Radio Shack if I have exhausted every other possibility. They are not what they used to be, and VERY overpriced on all their Chinese imports.

I'd seek out an electronics store.

There's one around here called Jabor Electronics. The guys that run the place are pretty much jerks but you can get almost any electronic chip, fan, capacitor, etc..

A place like that would be the best place to look for the right fan for the job. They might have a fan designed for low voltage situations.

What size of fan do you want. I have a couple laying around, however, the smallest I have is 3"x3" and pushes 40 CFM. So if you have room for something that big, LMK & I can bring it to the bash. Here is an idea. Bolt the fan to the top of your buggy body.

Here is a link to some fans. You can get them for under $1. You just need to decide on what size of fan you want.

Yes, the fans will definitely work on a 9V battery (I just tried it) & should also work off of your 6V Rx pack (I would assume). You just need to keep in mind that as the voltage drops, so does the fan's output.

Check online too or your best bet is still to get it from a small computer store that carries all of those parts in stock. There are many around here... I am sure I could find one with ease going to those places. Best Buy? Best Buy wouldn't have anything like that. They don't carry any kind small parts like that.

What if Error mounted half of his heli on your buggy. You fly and jump real high and then flip a switch and a clutch switches to turn on the gyros, lol. All right!

This is a chain store that happens to be local, but they do Internet orders as well I think. Good store, these guys have TONS fo stuff.

TRY THIS

That's a good idea; you can put the intake side pointing down so it doesn't get filled with dirt.
