 my buggy is constantly stalling..... sometimes itll run for a bit then stall while its running at a constant speed..... other times it will stall after about 5 seconds....... it kinda sounds like it is starving for fuel.... and sometimes after it stalls there is no fuel in the fuel line......I'm wondering if this means there is a problem with my fuel pick up from the fuel tank? has anyone encounted this problem? is it possible that when i smashed it previously that i had damaged the fuel pick up tube(or whatever its called) that draws the fuel from the tank into the fuel line?

any help would be greatly appreciated cos this is frustrating me..... got a new jump to use but can't get my buggy runnin ryt to make the most of it.

HELP!!!!! HELP!!!!! HELP!!!!!

You have a leak somewhere or or you are running it way too lean.
Leak check the tank.

Ok, what you need to do, is check the tank, see if it cracked, check the seals on the tank lid, sometimes these can become damaged causing an air leak. Check the pressure line that goes from the exhaust to the top of the tank to see if it has any splits/cuts/holes in it. Check that the fuel line from the tanks to the carb has no nicks/cuts/holes. Check that the glow plug is ok while you are at it. an old or "damaged" plug can and does cause erratic running and stalling.

Also, check the engine for an air leak between the exhaust seal and the exhaust header.

Another check to carry out is to see if there is a blockage in the high speed needle. all it takes is a small piece of dirt to get in there and it will restrict fuel flow enough to cause lean running and constant stalling.

How old is the engine ? has it lost compression ? does the engine stall when cold or at running temperature ??

With all those checks done, it should eradicate any problems that you may be having.

hey thunder tiger..... after an inspection trying to find a leak..... i have found that the rubber gasket between the engine and the exhaust......could this be the possible problem causin it to constantly stall? it seems to do it more when its hot..... I'm goin to buy a new gasket n hopefully fix the problem.....

The exhaust gasket can mess with temp and tune but shouldn't make it stall. A leak on the fuel side will cause it to stall. You said it does it more when it's hot...How old is the engine and how much fuel has been run through it? Stalling once it gets warm can be a sign of a worn piston/sleeve.

oh ok then smaxxin..... ill have to have another look then on the fuel side of the engine...
the engine isnt that old at all..... its only about 3 months old n id say it hasnt even had 4Litres through it.......so could it still be a worn piston/sleeve? surely not.......??????

A bad enough exhaust leak will cause stalling. lack of fuel system pressure + high temps due to the leak. The carb is probably vapor locking due to the excess heat as well.

Ok I'll rephrase it...I have never had an engine stall because of a broken or completely missing exhaust gasket.

then you have been very lucky, i have had an engine stall out on me because of a burnt up/missing exhaust gasket. It's no fun i can assure you.

A blown or missing gasket will for sure cause issues with your tune, not only will the pressure fluctuate in the fuel tank, the pipe is designed to work at a certain pressure as well. It get's quite technical but the exhause pulse will travel at different speeds depending on the pressure and heat inside the pipe, the back pressure will also fluctuate sending the tune all over the map. For the cost of a gasket and the ill affects it can cause, I would make sure that it is always in good shape.

pronlem solved guys.... changed the seal.... and the guy at my LHS fixed thew problem....it was runnin way to rich so he adjusted it and its all good now.... i even hit my local bmx track n bashed away with it today....

THANX HEAPS PEOPLE FOR YOUR HELP.....
MUCH APPRECIATED.....

Good deal, I hope you where there to watch the tuning process. With the exhaut seal replaced you would have been able to tune it in yourself in time.
Glad we could help.

yeh i was there to wtach the quick tune scrogg......only took a few seconds for the adjustmeants to be made n now she runnin like a dream......

I'm GLAD YOU GUYS COULD HELP ASWELL....
