I also had an offer for an RC10 GT plus some $$$.

Should I accept the heli? Looks damm sweet and I always wanted one.

Have you flown anything before? Helis take dicipline and extreme focus. The hardest thing to do with a heli (before ya go 3D) is hover. And you'll do alot of just that, hovering. Helis are a blast, but they're born to die. If you have a friend that has Real Flight G2, ask them if you can try it out. It's not perfect, but it'll give you a taste of what flying helis is like for soemone who hasn't.

But if you have a spare Maxx, I'd trade. You seem like the meticulous kind of guy that would dig helis. And if you thought wrench time was a bitch on the trucks, wait till you pull maintenance on a heli. When I flew them, I'd fly for an hour, and wrench for two. All it takes is a bum link end to pop off, and it all goes to hell real quick (seen it happen BTW).

I've got two things on my mind that will prevent me from getting a heli.
1) Do I have a SAFE place to fly it?
2) Do I have the PATIENCE to learn to fly??

Maintenance is no problem. It is half the fun.

Two very good points to consider.

1) Never fly in a public park. I did, and I got the crap scared out of me a few times. People just don't think, and they will gravitate right toward a cool toy like a heli, never considering that you probably don't know they're there, and that a heli will kill them dead if it gets a hold of them.

2) Patiensce. It takes alot, and flying a heli is very metally draining, especially in the begining. But if you stick with it, there's nothing like flying a heli.

I agree with all the above plus you have to consider cost. There's no such thing as a cheap heli crash. And it WILL crash. Something as simple as touching down a little too hard. Rotors flex down catch the boom. I think my least expensive "crash" was probably $60. They are challenging and fun. My final conclusion was that it took too much concentration. I'd leave the field mentally drained sometimes instead of having fun. May be because of my lower than normal cognitive abilities though.:jester:

Pretty much anything that's big, can do some serious damage to someone or something. Once you get into 3 dimensional r/c, it's a whole different world. Nothing like r/c cars (they're toys compared to planes and helis)

Well IMO for anything that is bigger than an electric park flyer. You really need to get an AMA membership and join a club. There's a lot of benefits to joining a club. For one, unless you're in the northwest, you'll always have a place to fly that's got plenty of space. Virtually everyone will help you out. And you can take advantage of instructors that will help you learn to fly.

Oh yeah, and they do have this thing called a buddy cord which is basically to transmitters connected to a wire. When the student gets in trouble, the instructor can take the controls instantaneously and save the plane.
