Hi!!

Reading alot about CVD's. Did a search here and did get somewhat wiser (i think)

I have a sirio 3.0 in the mail. Simply could'nt resist, but then I read some posts about the telescope stock thingies on the T-Maxx not being able to handle the power of "upgraded" engines. In the long run anyways.

Then (as usual) I browsed by Tower and did a search. Looks like MIP is the brand of chioce. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I found this http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDXN8&P=0

I'll need 2 sets right and that's all. No need to buy anything else. Or am i missing something here ??

Lastly. Will the MIP CVD kit fit with the RPM Axle carriers http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEXG6&P=0

I'll be buying these with my next order from Tower (yet another "½-the-price-of-a-T-maxx" upgrade. :hammer:

Regards....

MIP is the best in my opinion but you pay for it. They are fully rebildable and you can buy all the parts seperate so that is nice. All the other brands I have seen for cheaper should do the trick. On my Maxx I went for the MIP Shiny CVD's and love them, but my wallet didn't.

Yup you'll need 2 sets. The set only comes with 2 dogbones, but you need 4 to go all around. XTM also has some CVD's and they're half the price of the MIP's ($50 for whole set of XTM's) but i've heard mixed reviews about them.

MiP CVDs are great. I run them on my T-Maxx, but I think there is a better product out there. I believe they are made by Dynamite. The reason I say they are better, is the simple fact that they are basically the same product as the MiP CVDs with one exception...they come with dust boots at the ends. Those boots keep the oil in and the crap out. This means longer between rebuilds.

Here's a look at them from Stormer Hobbies:

No picture here, but this is the link for the 2.5 T-Maxx set of CVDs by Dynamite:

I use the MIP and love them.
When looking for a set I went to my LHS to explore the options available. My LHS owner advised me that he pulled all the Dynamite CVDs off the shelf due to a high rate of failure.

I haven't tried or used the Dynamites but it is rare that he pulls parts off the wall and sends them back.

In the meantime My MIPs are in their 3rd Maxx. and going strong.

I don't disagree that the MiP CVDs are great. I have not had to do anything with mine, and I just noticed that Dynamite sells their dust boots separately for like $5. So a better solution might be the MiP CVDs with the Dynamite dust boots.

The Boots don't fit well on the MIP. I tried already.
The dynamite boots are to short and not quite wide enough for my liking.

I use shrink tubing on mine. It holds up great and is hassle free. Just cut some a bit longer than needed, lube up your joint, slip the tubing on and heat it up. Once it cools down trim it to size.

I have the Dynamite CVDs on one of my maxxes and I have not had any failure or problems with them. I like the boots as well. Also when I had a problem with one of the cups and a stripped screw in it, their customer service was exceptional and had a replacement parts out to me in about 3 days. I would buy them again without hesitation.

Either way you go, MIP or Dynamite, You also need to look at center drives. I race my truck and even with the 2.5 I twisted all 4 of the telescoping axels and the 2 center drives as well.....not all at once mind you, but If you're in the buying frenzy, may as well get it all knocked out.

as for physical differences, this is from the Unlimited Engineering site.
"The outputs are compatible with UE and MIP CVs. The Dynamite CVs drive cup is 3.5mm longer - which probably means that the shafts are 3.5mm shorter and will be too short.Stock Plastic sliders will not work. XTM center shafts will not fit the pinion."

So if you're looking at aftermarket suspension and A arms that throw longer than stock this might also be something to consider?

OMG :-o

I allready have the rpM wide A-arms in all four corners of the truck.

I will go for the MIP CVD's

What center drives will I need then. I might as well go for the full upgrade at once.. My VISA will hate me for this, but my Maxx wil love me I guess.

Please advice.

Regards
