Ok I'm pissed right now. I'm trying to play a dvd in media center. Its the only way to watch it on my computer. So I put a dvd in and it says not detected. I have tried 3 dvds and noting. Its been doing this for a week now. Any clues. It says no disk dected. WTF. I'm geting so frustrated right now its not funny.

Go to MS and download WMP again. It might correct the problem.
If you don't have 11 yet, get it there. If you're running XP, go for the bonus pack also.

I had a similar problem with both my CD and DVD drives. I ended up replacing both of them.

Its still being stupid. It works with a bought dvd like disney or something but I put one of my motorcycle movies in it and it does it again. O well. Just wont watch them on the computer.

There was an issue with Sony DVD movies a while back. They installed a rootkit that wouldn't allow computers to play them. Sony said it was an anti-piracy thing, but ended up getting slapped with a federal lawsuit for installing software without the owner's permission. I had to re-install windows afterward because the rootkit wiped out my ability to play ANY disk-based media (DVD and Audio CDs).

It may not even be a rootkit. Do you have a software DVD decoder installed? I have Media Player 11 installed, and it plays my movies in 5.1 surround just fine. When you insert the DVD of choice that won't play, can you see it's title when you go into My Computer (the drive its in will be listed as something OTHER than "DVD" or "CD" drive)?

Could also be a possible child lock preventing the movies from playing. Go into the tools menu, Options, then to DVD. The area you want is the "DVD Playback Restrictions" section.
