hey guys desktop.ini is a sytem file and isnt doing anything wrong to your computer.. (I'm a repair tech) the reason it looks trasnparent is because it is a hidden file and you have your machine set up to show hidden files.. go to tools, folder options, view, and click on do not show hidden files.. then it will be gone.. i dont know who told you it was a virus but I've never heard of it and imo norton antivirus is the ONLY antivirus.. any more questions??

i have one ...how can someone who is a repair tech be so narrow minded thinking that
one antivirus program is the end all be all expessialy norton..... they all have there strenghts and catch things that others miss

what does being a computer tech have to do with not being narrow minded?? besides I'm not narrow minded i just only sugest things that i KNOW work from my own person use... because i see machines with mcaffe and the panda one and other av programs that come in running like poo and filled up with junk.. the only ones i see with norton are ones with outdated nortons or ones that people didnt update or let expire.. i see more computers in 1 week than most people see in a lifetime... some machines with norton may get messed up and I've seen viruses that will take out a perfectly good norton.. but no other av program was a match for it ether... again it was IMO and i am entitled to it.. and i base that on the strengths vs weaknesses of the avalable AV programs and so far norton has never.. and i mean never.. let me down i got a laptop and a desktop of my own that has never had a problem.. plus i have 7 computers open to the PUBLIC and three servers.. all running norton.. remember i have NO control over where the people go or what the download as long as its not illegal or adult related.. and i never have a problem with viruses... spyware and adware on the otherhand are another subject... any more questions pertaining to computers?? instead of my personal opinion

p.s. i trust norton so much it is the ONLY antivirus i sell in my store.. ask anyone that does this for a living chances are they will say NAV all the way

In 3 computers here, Norton was always the first program installed. I've used it for 5 years, and I couldn't imagine ever being without it. Never have I had a virus get in, but I've had Norton's red banner pop up several times to tell me it stopped one, and I quarantine it. Then, just to be on the safe side, I run Roxio GoBack (Bundled with Norton) to remove the last 10 minutes, leaving NO trace of it.
My neighbor had a free trial version of Norton AV in a new computer, and because he never bothered to update or purchase it, he had to do a full format and reinstall of the OS, 4 times in the first year, due to viruses that got in.
Everytime he has to do that, he gets another 90 days free, and continues to take his chances.
The sensors you see on the screen shot of my desktop are also part of Norton System Works, and provide instant info on what's going on in the computer.

If you didn't have "hidden files" turned on before. You wouldn't have seen them. You know how you open say the C: drive and you see the lame pie chart? or maybe you open the windows\system folder but instead of showing you the files, it comes up with a screan that says: "No No No You Dirty Bastard! You Can't Look At These Files. (But click here if you wanna anyway)" The desktop.ini and Folder.htt control those screens.

Personally, I hate them. I go Start -> Search (or Find) -> "Desktop.ini;Folder.htt" -> search -> Select All (control + a) -> SHIFT + Delete (Buh Bye)

The virus you posted is the first I've heard of anyone using a desktop.ini to infect a PC. If you are concerned about this threat, open you desktop.ini files in notepad (you can drag and drop them from explorer onto notepad's window). Looking at the desktop.ini files in this manor will not infect you. This way you can see if there is a weird string like the one you posted above.

LMAO.. my son was at the feeding age.. everything had a name and needed to be taken care of...
At the same age.(maybe need a different thread) I woke up and checked on the kids before getting ready.. no 3 yr old.. dylan was missing.

Afterabout a 45 minute search I found him in nothing but his diaper sitting in a neighbors jeep turning the wheel back and forth,
I says "What the hell are you doing"
Dylan says "Duh I driven!"

According to my searching, there actually is a virus called desktop.ini, but I didn't have it. Beason is correct. I turned off 'show hidden files' and only had one.
All the others are for wallpaper, background color settings, fonts, icons etc.
