I've heard alot of cool stuff about R/C nitro Trucks, and I really want to get into the hobby. I need all the info I can get (i've read the stickies and everything :)) on what I need to get to start the hobby, but one problem is I'm running on a VERY tight budget.

My budget is around $220, so I'm wondering if anybody can make a list of what I need to get started (including the prices to stay on my budget) I'm kind of looking towards the monster trucks over truggies and buggies.

Please help me I'm REALLY looking forward into getting into this hobby:)

For $220 you should be able to pick up something nice thats used. Rc10Gt's are good 1st timer trucks as well as Tmaxx's, and should be around that range. Just buy from a reliable source (Like on here) so you can get a truck that someone drove it who knew what they were doing. Would hate to see ya get something off ebay with a blown mill or something. As far as something new for $220, I'm not sure youd have very many options for something your gonna be happy with.

Some stuff youll need is a Fuel bottle, Temp gun, Fuel, Glow wrench, Extra Glow plugs.. Just to name a few.

If I go to my local hobby shop, do you think they carry used trucks?

They might. Theres alot around that do. Just be sure to check for compression, and just overal normal wear. On a used rig chances are theres going to be some wear but look for as minimal as ya can find. Also look for bent stuff, cracks, etc.. If its a good hobby shop they should have repaired it before they sell it.

Totally wasn't thinking, but you can also check out our forum sponsor RushRc.com He usually has some used rides, for good prices. He inspects everything before it goes out too, so you can asure your getting what he advertises. I've bought quite a few parts from him and hes top notch to deal with. So check him out for sure!

Doubtful, but always possible. 4U is right on. Best thing to do is NOT get into a rush and buy the first thing that fits your budget. Chances are, it'll be crap and you'll get quickly upset with the hobby and give it up. I'd hate to see that, because the hobby is truly a lot of fun and the folks on this board are top notch all around!

Frankly, $220.00 is a tight budget to get totally up and running, my man. Rather than focus on the money for right now, I'd start by determining what kind of rig you want. There are monster trucks, stadium trucks (2WD & 4WD) and buggies. I'm guessing you are looking for off road, correct? There are on roads out there, but you may be limited as to where you can run.

So, my first suggestion would be to run a search in the various forums on the site and see what peeks your interest. As a first timer, I'd suggest starting with a stadium truck (just my personal opinion). They tend to be a little more forgiving and the parts are a bit cheaper as well. Some good trucks in this class are: HPI MT and MT2, Team Associated RC10GT and RC10GT2, HPI Rush Evo and Traxxas Jato. The HPI MT and MT2 are 4WD, the others are 2WD. If you are looking for a good basher stadium truck, my suggestion would be the HPI MT or MT2. The RC10GT is one helluva truck (glad I can say this on this forum :hehe: ) but it is 2WD. The thing is built like a tank and has superb parts support, so it may be worth looking into.

I think once you determine what "class" rig you want, we can help with the budget part. Remember, start with the end in mind.

Good luck! Welcome to RCNT and to the hobby!

a temp gun, fuel bottle, fuel (Id suggest 20%) and glow plug wrench is some of the Universal stuff you will need, so you could pick that up if ya wanted.

i think I'm leaning toward a 4x4 monster truck :), and I dont know if I'll be able to order online (my parents have had bad experiences with shops and EvilBAY)
