Will cold weather cause poor performance, to the point where I can't even find a happy mixture setting?

Since these motors are almost like a diesel motor, I wonder why they dont come out with some sort of block heater like the real diesels. Something that if you keep your truck outside in the cold then you can plug it up something like a battery charger plug. Does this sound stupid or do you think this could be done.

because block heaters warm the coolant in the engine and circutale it trought out and nitro engines obiously dont have a cooling syatem lol that would be sweet if they did though

Yeah but you could make on hell of a preheater for the block to use when in cold climates. Literally all you'd need is a 1.5v lantern battery and 1 piece of wire about 2 feet long. Strip about 6" of the cover in the middle and put the stripped section of the wire around the engine and hook the other ends of the wire to the positive and negative on the battery and you're set.

Get yourself a clip for your glow plug, and some connectors. plug in one for the glow warmer, the other for teh block heater. wait a second, fire it up. UNplug the connectors and off you go. No more hand held glow charger either :D

I have this really cheap block warmer from Target. I think women use it to dry their hair. Does wonders.

Maxxdout, there will be a threshold where you will no longer gain performance and quite possibly not see any kind of reasonable performance. That temp is somewhere below zero on the Farenheit scale. At that point, most RC modelers would rather be in doors by a fire or some other heat source. But as Pirata and others have mentioned, you should be able to find a nice performance mark if the engine gets tuned properly. I have run in all kinds of cold weather (not extremes, but below freezing) and have had great performance and great fun. It is do-able.

Aren't there street car tire warmers that heat off a 7.2v battery? I think I've seen that tip in one of RCCA. They put the little warmer over the head and let it warm up the engine.

I use a mini blow torch... it works if your careful.

Last week robriguez and I were gonig to run our MT's around 11:30pm. The trucks were in the trunk for 2 hours when we tried to turn them on. I am proud to say that after 15minutes of tring to get them to turn the motor over my Maxx turn on while he could not turn his Savage on. Figure I throw that in. But yes it would be great if they made a heater to warm up the engine's.

Lately, to save torching the engine, I've been putting mine on the floor of my car while driving to where I go to drive the truck with the heat on high. Normally, it's for about 15 minutes worth of driving to get to where I drive. Haven't had any issues yet.
