ok i finally got EVERYTHING (that i can tell) fixed and now i just have to keep the thing running. the nut that hold the slipper clutch on is either too tight or not tight enough. when it's too tight the truck dies because it stays engaged. when it's too loose, it just spins the motor and not the wheels. where is the sweet spot? is there a "factory setting" i can start from?

i'm stumped
 
well i gave it a shot and still nothing. if i set it on the rails of my truck bed (so the tires can spin) it runs fine. but as soon as i set it down it bogs down and dies.

i offer eternal friendship and free room and board (if you ever roll through shreveport) to whoever can help. this is extremely frustrating.
 
your clutch on the motor is shot. pull the motor out of the truck and take the e clip off of the clutch bell and see if you still have a spring going round your clutch shoes
 
what do you mean it stays engaged, are you sure that you problem is not with the clutch thats in the bell, when you start your truck does the clutch bell move and if it does you should be able to stop it with your finger while the engine is idling

we have a winner, well two

yup. chuck and suicide are the jam!
broke it down and the spring was there, but the end was turned back and was bent. it's a temp fix but i got it back into a loop and around the clutch shoes.

as far as what i meant by "stays engaged" its like you tried to start a car with a standard transmission in first gear, without putting in the clutch to start it.

well so much for the quick fix. fired it up and it broke again. oh well. it's takes a huge load off knowing what the problem is.
 
Please don't stick your finger down by the clutch or spur while the engine's running. Unless your looking for a quick way to get rid of it.

+1 on that. I mean really why would anybody tell someone to put there finger into their clutch bell to see if its moving. The easiest way is to leave truck turned off if you can't get the Clutch Bell to spin freely then the clutch is bad end of story.

i was thinking this when i read it
not my cup of tea anyways i would like to keep hold of all my fingers for a a bit longer yet
 
lol don't worry guys. i didn't dream of putting my finger in the way, kinda smirked when i read it. i used a small flat head and that answered my question.
