Playing around with my Maxx today (yes, I kept it), and I was working on getting it running cooler.

Towards the end of the 3rd tank, I noticed that it was bogging pretty much during any type of acceleration. I attribute some of it to heat (even though it wasn't maxing out the temp at that time), but all of a sudden during a normal "boggy" run it took off like a bat outta HE!!. It actually did that a couple times, then I just drove it around normal to let it cool down and run outta fuel.

Nothing had changed during those brief high accleration periods, and since I doubt the engine got so cool at that one point in time to get massive acceleration, something else must be going on. My first thought is a slipping clutch, but figured Id ask the experts.

Any ideas?

Since engines tend to run leaner as the tank empties, do you think your HSN is set really rich? Rich enough to bog? And as the tank emptied it leaned out enough to start performing?

A slipping clutch can't affect engine performance.

Thats the strange thing, I really noticed it on the second half of the tank.

As the engine gets warmer, would I lose noticeable performance if the piston and sleeve are overly worn? I figured that any loss in performance would be from a loss in compression, and at that point the engine would just cease to run (stall).

Otherwise I dont know what it could be. I *did* however discover a broken motor mount when I went over the truck last night. Could that have been throwing off the spur gear enough that I would be "missing" acceleration? I wasn't sure if this was it, because I've seen this issue once before and it wasn't because of a broken motor mount back then.

Absooutely that could do it - especially when you punch it. Replace it and check it out.

Glad you found that!

TRX 2.5. Sorry I forgot to include that (wasn't sure it would make a difference, but I guess ya never know :) ).
