hey guys, I recently tore up another clutch in my savage 4.6 and I wanted to replace it but am so terrible at the 3 piece spring setup. I have a few questions. Is it good to use a metal clutch? What are the benefits/bad? Also, I seen a piece setup, it is super easy to install, but is is weaker? Also, do I need to replace the spindle that the clutch rests on if the 2 piece is ok to use? Thanks guys!

Meant to say I found a 2 piece setup.
 
After doing some research I found that the two piece clutch is less grabby, and that the three piece aluminum one is more snap but can require filing down the edges?
 
I highly highly recommend using the integy 7075 clutch kit for the savage. This clutch will easily last 1,2 and almost 3 gallons with normal gearing lol. My savage at 20/27 gearing uses this clutch and I got 2 gallons out of this clutch. I have tried the max life shoes and IMO they suck and burnt up in less than 20min each time. Besides the Integy kit comes with shoes, springs, flywheel, and collet all for under $20! Those other kits cost way more and IMO will last just as long.

Oh and alloy shoes are much stronger and last longer than the Teflon shoes. The filing down you mention is needed for softer alloy shoes that are made from 6061. The 7075 shoes take a lot longer for this to happen.
 
+1 on the integy 7075 clutch I run them on all my nitro's and being I I'm a basher and not a racer they hold up great , I get a full season and they are still in good shape .

Those are the new evo 5 shoes, how do you like them? I've only made a few runs on mine, haven't looked at them yet. The one thing I like about the new integy kit is the ease of install and amount of material in contact with the bell.
 
Thanks, ill look into the integy shoes.. What motor is that? I'm still running the stock motor in mine, also, do I need to replace the flywheel and collet or can I just replace the shoes..

I run the LRP.32 , with the integy clutch set up in the .32 I use the fly wheel collet that come's with the .32 then I put on the integy flywheel and shoe's.
I find that collet's can fit deffernt even if they are the same size so see what collet fit the flywheel the best and if the collet bottoms out in the flywheel just by setting it in by hand it is to small .
Not sure if the integy shoe's that come in that kit will fit the HPI stock flywheel or not being I never tried that and I all we's switched out the flywheels.
If you don't have a flywheel puller you can just gave a good sharp hit with the handle end of screw driver on the back of both side's of the flywheel to get it off , make sure to hold the engine in your hand when doing this , if you sit it on the ground and nock off the flywheel you can mushroom the end of the crank and the clutch bell bearing will not fit back on the crank.
