I was out running my RC10GT and it stopped running. When investigating it I noticed the spur gear was stripped so I figured my enging slipped because I had just worked on it and reinstalled and maybe I didn't tighten it down enough. In any case I replaced the spur gear with a new one and reset the engine and tried to re-start it. Then I noticed that the clutch bell was kind of loose and wobbly so I took it off. Inside the clutch bell all I could find was two empty bearing shells and some miscellaneous small rings of metal - no balls or anything else. Both of them had completely blown apart. Nothing else appeared to be damaged and I wasn't running at extreme temperatures (<220 when it stopped running). I am going to replace the bearings as well as a few other worn parts but I wanted to make sure this wasn't a sign of something that was set up wrong or something before I run it again. FWIW, I have the MIP clutch in there and am running a OS CVRX .18 engine and the idle may have been set SLIGHTLY high but otherwise everything is pretty stock and normal. Anything I should look at before running again or was it just the bearings time to go? Thanks.

Matt

Bearings sometimes just blow up outta nowhere... sometimes they just wear out and grenade on ya... Do not replace them with AE brand bearings... those seem to blow up fast...

I will go with another brand. The only wierd thing was that both of the bearings in the clutch blew up. Oh well, I will just replace them and see what happens.

yep, the duratrax bearings are the ones I use, they hold up ALOT better than the AE bearings.........

I hate to say it, but thats what i use for cb bearings too... LOL... they hold up so much better than the AE bearings, and at 1/4 the cost... :hammer:

well, seeings how were making confessions here, I use duratrax bearings in all my stuff.............LOL.........like ya said .21........1/4 of the cost makes it alot easier to stock up on wheel and CB bearings..........

Good to hear. I just ordered full Duratrax bearings for my GT along with the flanged bearings which don't come in the kit and a bunch of other stuff. Second day delivery so I'll have it on Friday and be back in action Friday or Saturday. Just in time for the rain.

Actually fellows:

If you use just the RTR bronze bushings instead of the bearings in the clutch you will be better off. The only time the bushings come into play is when the engine is idling, and I don't know of many races that are won just idling. With the bushings you'll never DNF in a race. And the cost is very cheap.

This is a trick I learned many years ago with the GT.

If you think duratrax bearings are good... you definitly should try boca's cheaper green seal bearings. If duratrax bearings are better than AE bearings, that definitly doesn't bode well for AE. IMO, durtrax berarings suck. They always shell out on me in a quarter of the time the boca's do... or did. I used to use boca green seals on my xxx-nt when I had it for the axles, CB, trans and diff. I bought the full duratrax kit for that truck and every single one of them blew apart in a short while.
