I was running a 17t clutch with a 36t spur - forward only diff and wide ratio differential. I have destroyed one plastic spur in about 200 metres of throttle on. It just stripped the teeth clean off. I then put on a hardened steel spur gear (integy). That one lasted about 2 weeks then shattered yesterday when I was giving it some full throttle workout without jumps - just flat work. Basically the teeth are getting so much force form acceleration and then braking that I think the ends of the teeth are being slowly fatigued. All the setup is right and I've checked the endplay and alignment with vernier calipers. is there any techies out there who may have some idea what to do in this case.

I've ordered some extra hard spurs from Robinson Racing - but the spur from Integy was also hardened. Maybe I need a completely different Clutch for this REVO truck. Anyone know of engine hopups that could handle this problem let me know. Engine is RB 9 port.

well I'm new to this and it sounds like you know more then me but I just replaced my spur gear and I needed to loosen the two adjustment screws on the engine mount to get the gears to mesh right. I found that the right placement gave a uniform feel/resistance when I pushed the spur gear with my finger, I can also give it a bit of a flick and it will turn about a full revolution on its own.

Hold the endbell and try to rotate the sg. You want a small amount of play in it. And I think your mesh was too tight if your hattetring steel sg's.

What is an RB 9 port? Is it a true big block? What engine conversion kit are running? The chassis may be tweaking in the engine bay on you under heavy acceleration. Do you have the engine bay plate for the 3.3 installed?

Of the few RB's I've heard/seen in videos, they are some mean engines.

RB 9 port is a 3.78cc Concept Racing Engine designed for the REVO - look it up at rbproducts.com
Yeah I've done all the normal and more. Everything is the way it should be for instalation but for a few headaches.

I got a fix and it works great

I got a fix for distortion and it works a treat. All you have to do is machine up a copy of the engine reinforcement 5361 in the manual but make it out of
6mm aluminum plate and extend the rear quarter to lap the corner assembly. That makes it tight to get the starter in but if you assemble the engine direct its a breeze. Not clash with the gear msh and the engine is straight as a die. It can't distort because the plate sandwich is now 10mm thick with extension round the slot for the flywheel. All the othere specs remain the same so there are no other things to do after this little job, except go racing... yipee.

thanks for the input it has been helpful.
