I was retuning my savage today when i noticed a clicking noise. Nothing was out of place and the truck braked same as always. Any ideas ??

Unfortunately I know exactly what this is. You have a busted ring or pinion gear (most likely on the front differential). Comes from landing jumps with the brakes on. You will have to remove the differential and check the ring and pinion. If they are fine take the diff apart and check the spider gears inside.

Thanks for the respond. Ill be checking it as soon as I can. I feared it was something like that.

When do you notice the clicking? If it's when coasting off power and when on power, it could just be worn drive cups. The cups on the trans wear really bad notches and the ears on the dog bones get caught as the shaft rotates. Causes a nasty CLICK CLICK CLICK until it gets so bad that it snags the dogbone and twists it in two pieces.

+1 on the pinion gear, I'm 99.9% sure its that...but could be wrong LOL!!!

Boutch, you were right. The pinion gear is toast, 5 missing teeth. OOPS. Ok no brakes on landing. Now i just gotta find a hobby store in houston that carries hpi parts. Everything here is traxxass.

Your most likely have to order online, might wanna take a look at the teeths on your diff to see if they are alright.

OH, and take sure to clean up in that diff case to make sure you have no left over pieces of your bevel gear or else your gonna scrap another one...been there, done that.:\
Good Luck

Go to ebay. $25-$30 will get you an entirely new XL diff. The ring gear looks to be milled vs cast like the old savage ring gears. I just installed two brand new ones in my savage as both of mine fried on me. Got to get her beefed up for next season!

Thanks for the help guys, just ordered from tower hobbies 33$ plus i got a 20$ gift certificate. : ) So 18$ w/shippings not bad.

Oops, thanks Parputt!
