I am getting sick and tired of buying nitro clean. I want to just buy some rubbing alcohol but what is the mixture I need to be at for it to be safe for my whole car? I want to be able to spray this like I do with the nitro clean youget at the LHS? Any Ideas?

buy denatured alcohol, you can get it at your local hardware store, for cheap. Put some in a spray bottle and there you go.

Nitro dave is right on - denatured alchohol is almost the only ingredient in nitro cleaner. You can get it at any hardware store for about 9.00 a gallon.

what is the difference in the two...Isopropyl & Denatured alcohol?:ponder:

I use this stuff called engine degreaser. I bought it at wal-mart for like 78cents. It comes in a big can to. I think that it works really good. It doesn't eat anything away either.

yeah but it smells like petroleum..I have used it on my real car. The smells lingered for a hell of a long time. Don't really know how safe it is for Our expensive toyz. I do know that it discolored my airbox intake on my integra. That was a real pisser.Anyone have any take on this issue of engine degreaser on Nitro Rides?:radio: :buggy1:

From a previous post on denatured:

Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) is great for intensifying the pain of a cut or scratch 1000% but absolutly sux for cleaning...anything

FYI:
Isopropyl alcohol(aka...2-propanol):
H H H
| | |
H-C-C-C-H

H H H

Ethyl Alcohol (Ethanol)
H H
| |
H-C-C-O-H
| |
H H

Methyl Alcohol (aka Methanol):
H

H-C-OH
|

Denatured Alcohol is made up of:
82.9% Ethyl Alcohol
00.2% Ethyl Acetate
16.4% Methyl Alcohol
00.5% Methyl Ethyl Ketone

(Denatured Alcohol is just Ethyl alcohol to which a poisonous substance, such as acetone or methanol, has been added to make it unfit for consumption. Also to keep the damn ATF from taxing it as they do for consumable Ethyl Alcohol)

Consumable Ethyl Alcohol = the fermented stuff that makes beer, wine and liqour so much fun to drink. "Can we say Inebriated children?"

From a previous post on denatured: Hey robriguez....ENGLISH man All that took me back to chemistry in high school..Thanks but what does it all mean? RCCA mag states that Denatured alcohol is what they use after a run. along with a compressor.

LOL.....well you did ask what the diefference was....:read:

I guess my ASCII graphis dont work well here on the board. The Hydrogen Molecules should be attached to the carbon Molecules....

Anyway, Rubbing Alcohol (which conatains Isopropyl Alcohol but is not made up entirely of it) is mostly water. Because of this its cleaning properties arent much metter than plain water. Compound that with the fact that water is no good for metal parts ie...your engine...you should not us Rubbing Alcohol to clean your rides.

As mentioned above, if you want a cheap alternative to NitroClean, then go to your local Hardware Store and buy a gallon of Denatured Alcohol. Put it into either a trigger type spray bottle (like an empty windex bottle) or something like this:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=1102

Then spray till your hearts content.....

:alarm: :alarm: Try not to get this stuff on your hands :alarm: :alarm:

Denatured tends to draw the oils out of your skin very rapidly. If you get too much on your skin for a prolonged time you can actually dry out your skin to the point that it cracks and is extremely painful.

Thanks robriguez ..I almost thought you meant that both were bad for your car. I will go out and buy some ASAP.Do you know how much percent denatured alcohol it should be? I heard that there was a variety...Not really sure if the old man was on or off his tree!

I just bought some Denatured alcohol and it says S-L-X right over the Denatured alcohol. Does that mean it is a different type or will this work for me?

i found some stuff at the super market in the cleaning section called "Fabuloso" that says doesn't need rinsing off cause it leaves no residue, cleans anything, plus smells sweet, mix 1/8 cup to a gallon of water, i mixed 3/4 cup & less than a quart of water in a windex bottle, the stuff comes in quart & gallon bottles, ran my truck out here in the sand dunes all day, shot some of this stuff on & blew it off with air, damn thing looked like new!!! & its only .97 cents a quart!!, may not be able to get it where you are, i'm in California & with a name like "Fabuloso" may be local stuff but i'm gonna buy about 5-gal. of the stuff that should make 300-400 gal-lol, its made by Colgate-Palmolive in Mexico

Yes S-L_X denatured is what you want....

I got mine a home Depot for 9.95 I think made by klean-strip...........
