I spent the past weekend with my Daughter and Grandson (6) at their home near Neosho Missouri.

My Grandson has loved RC vehicles for a couple of years. Last April he got a car off Amazon. Was a neat car, but very little parts availability.

I got him a Redcat Ascent 18 and built him a small obstacle (first one I have tried). Obstacle needs a little finishing up, but I ran out of time.

I stuffed his stocking with a light kit, extra battery, steel drive shafts, steel links, side mirrors, beadlock wheels, and new shocks.

He loves his truck, and put quite a bit of time on it over a couple of days. Can already tell I am gonna have to buy more batteries.

Very nicely done. It's great seeing the youngsters having fun with RC's. I hope his attention span stays with ya through the upgrades. When my kid was about four I could keep his attention for quite awhile working on them. Lately his interest has dwindled a bit because of video games and such, but he's starting to take a little interest again, so I'm back at the bench.

Enjoy your day watching him open presents. And come back and show us what he got 😁

Appreciate the kind words!

I know what you mean about attention span, Sebastian loves his video games. I put in all of the upgrades while he was playing with his new PS5, ha ha! I am enjoying tinkering with the trucks, so I just petered along and sipped a little whiskey.

He got up about 0600 Sunday morning and he helped waterproof his ESC and Servo motor, though. I think when he gets his new tool kit for his birthday, and is a little more comfortable taking things off and putting them on, he will be on his way. Little fart is smarter than me most of the time, not that it is hard to accomplish!

Our first build we did together was a Tamiya TT-02. Wrong car to start him on, as that thing is a turd. Plus even I struggled getting some of the screws in straight. Toy grade plastic 😡

But anyway, we get to the diffs and I start to explain to him what they are for, then he cuts me off and starts explaining how the inside tire is travelling a smaller circle, etc. I'm like... huh. The stuff they are teaching in school nowadays is kinda crazy sometimes.

But I cherish any wrenching time we get together. But any more, I do 99% of it, mostly just to stay busy. But he'll have something to do this weekend when I get my time with him. Hoping to have this operational in a day or two 😉

I will have to send my daughter a link so Sebastian can take a look, thank you for sharing!

Just make sure you delete what you said you stuffed in his stocking 😆

Excellent time with the grandson. We try and keep ours involved with stuff that requires a little critical thinking, helps with the attention span. Merry Christmas fellas.

No worries, he opened his gifts Sunday morning!

Oh, ok. I was thinking he still had to get his stocking. My bad. Carry on 😜

I sent you a PM

I'm in the market for a new Grandpa! 🤣 Hey, can't blame a guy for tryin'
Nice job making him an obstacle for indoors too.:thumbs-up:

I love my little Ascent 18's. Trying to figure out how to squeeze a new Ascent18 Scout into the collection.

Thank you!

Yeah, I was informed over the weekend that he "REALLY needs one of those, too"!
