A while ago when I got my Savage I got a charger for the hump pack that I got with it. But I can't figure out how long I should charge it. Unlike most chargers I've had, this one doesn't indicate when it is done charging. A red light comes on when I plug the pack in, but never shuts off. All I've been doing is guessing and letting it charge for a an hour or three. How can I tell when the battery is charged?

Charger specs:
Expert Electronics Ac Charger
Input AC 110-120V
Output TX 9.6 VDC 50mA
RX 4.8-6 VDC 50mA

Battery:
Venom 1600mah, 6V

Are there any dangers of over charging the pack? It automatically shut off when done right?

It's not a fast charger, it's just a 'trickle' charger. Most of them recommend an overnight charge on a new battery, so there's no problem if you forget it.
After a charge, I haven't noticed any heat in either the battery or the wart.

you have all the info you need.

the charger outputs 50mA, and the pack hold 1600mah. So..

for a dead battery, it would take your charger 32 hours to charge that pack (1600mah / 50mA)

you have two options, you could get a voltage readout and just watch it, when it gets low recharge, or you could get a peak charger for around $50 or so.

honestly I've never seen one with an output that low. most i saw were 100mA

a peak charger would charge it at 1.6A and be done in about an hour.

this is all based on how much you run down the pack. if you only run a tank or two, it will take less time to recharge.

I did that calculation but 32 hours seemed way too long. I got the charger at my LHS and the one guy there isn't the nicest guy around, and seeing a new guy like me, he probably figured he'd give me the crap they don't sell.

Although I do have an X-charger B6, if I got the adapter for that I'll use that if possible

Take that pos back and get your money.
The B6 charger will do the job in no time.

I got the charger over a year ago. I just pulled all my rc stuff and and started charging everything for spring. And even if I did just get it there is a nice large sign in the shop that says "no returns".

Just my two cents, but I would "not return" if he sold you that charger and said "This one rocks!" If you were looking to go cheap then he did his job. Sorry. Get the adapter for the B6 and be happy!

I actually had an adapter and I am now happy lol
But you are right, he was just doing his job, and it was a cheap charger so its not like I lost a lot of money. I'll use it as a backup.
