I have done a quick search and can't find the answer to this although I'm almost certain it will have been asked many times before...

I have just got a Savage off ebay, the previous owner was running it with some 16% fuel, I've read that 20-25% is better for this engine so I was wondering if I can just start using the other fuel or should I mix the fuels together (they are different brands) and slowely change the % this way?

Cheers

I believe that you could start using your 20 or 25%, you'll prob have to re-tune your engine though.

as soon as i finish my first galon of fuel through the engine(20%) I'm jumpin to 40%!!! hellz yeah! the only thing is that i might have to add a shim inbetween my crank case & cooling head, I'm gonna ask around & find out for sure. I'm almost half way down the 20%gal.

Hey v12revo, your engine is gonna go fast if u put 40% and its gonna heat up like no tomorrow ..J

I sure hope your fuel has plenty of oil if your going that high. I was running 33% and I still swear that is the reason why I threw the con rod. None of the Pro racers here run more than twice on a mill when they run high octane (25% or better) without rebuilding at the least. Just food for thought.

For some reason a gallon of 30% was cheaper than the 20% & 25%.....so I bought the 30%. I still have some 20% left....should I use the 30% or is that too much??

it'll run and you may see a improvement on performance also. I'm not saying that anything over 25% is bad, I've just learned the hard way that it shortens the life of the mill. Pro racers eat that stuff up, but for bashing I still agree that 20 to 25% is a nice fuel to run. More food for thought real quick, maybe it's cheaper because it's been there a while and they are trying to get rid of it? I know at my LHS, 20% is almost a full $10 cheaper per gallon than the 30% or higher.

they told me the higher the % the richer i can run it = lower temps. i ran a few tanks on my lst2 with no problems only SPEED! i had to shim the head though.

the only thing with these higer nitro %'s is they dont lubricate your mill as good as the lower nitro %'s.

:\Thats weird, i bought the 30% for about 5$ more than i was paying for the 20 or 25%. Well good for you.:D
