yea, i think the chains are more a novelty, although they just may help a little. i'd go paddles if i were serious about running in the snow though. :)

I would go paddles but i think I'm going to be running it on ice more than snow, but i like the idea of using screws! thanks

i read a post about a year ago ago here about a Canadian who ran on ice alot and he put srews in tires from the inside out making the points stick out through the thread. He said it was very effective more so than the chains he had made, the chains were loose and sometimes slipped off with heavy wheel spin.

I would have to agree that chains are a novelty idea, and screws could be more effective. However, it would be fairly simple to make your own chains. Home Depot carries smaller size chain by the foot. I've head people call it "jack chain." I often buy it to hang indication plate on control valves and drains on the fire sprinkler systems I install. I'm sure it would hold up to what you dish out as long as you by some that is heavy enough

heres what i did ...but if i were to redo it , i would put twice as much screws ....i also glued some denim fabric on the inside before putting the screws in ...that way the tire doesn't expand with the extra weight ...and I'm sure the screws wont rip out
