My clutch bearings went again and I was wondering if a ceramic bearing would help to maybe get 3 gallons instead of 2 before I have to replace them. I went to ask the owner of my LHS but they said that no bearing can take the being heated then cooled so many times. Is that the case, Or is this just another one of his lies?

-Thanks

I read somewhere recently that the ceramic silicone nitride they make bearings out of are good up to 1600F. I wouldn't think a clutch assembly could produce that kind of heat, and cooling shouldn't matter because it is still within the ceramic operating range. If your ceramic bearings fail, I really doubt it would be due to the heat. More likely dirt/debris, or lack of maintenance.

Spinning clutch bells will throw the grease in the bearing right out in time. Make sure your gear mesh is not too tight. thats usually what causes the bearings to go. I have had the stock bearings now for 5 gallons, I did pull the bearings and repack them with grease after 3 gallons and they were pretty dry. It's kind of a pain in the arse getting the keepers and the seals out of the bearings but if you have an exacto knife it's possible.
