If I fit a centre diff will that enable me to steer the damn thing under hard acceleration?

At the moment with a fresh 3.3 & THS pipe the front gets so light under power that steering is pretty much useless, gotta back off the throttle to steer, so it's a bit of a handfull for a noob such as myself.

Centre diff will stop wheelies pretty much won't it? - that'd be a bummer, loving getting the thing up on the bumper, but I reckon being able to steer under acceleration is probably quite handy.

The CD will eliminate wheelies for the most part. Get some 500K diff oil, the stock oil wt is too light and will cause too much power transfer to the front wheels.
Don't forget the rear brake also.

Cool, but will the centre diff give enough traction to the front to be able to steer under hard acceleration? - if not then I'll keep wheelie ability & just learn better throttle modulation!

In a word, yes. You can balance the differential action by changing the weight of the oil in the diff. The thicker the oil, the more the diff will "lock" up.

Hell I can't turn either of my rigs under WOT! Just get off the gas a bit. Lol

It will help: How much it will help depends on your overall setup of the truck.

1st, are you running any type of spools

2nd, are your sevo's set propper

3rd, rear brake no go not enough adjustment at all!

4th, stay away from the cd no matter what u do front tire spin will accure i tried every thing.

5th, buy a tmaxx3.3 trans foward only from ebay and put all the internal in yes the do fit.

6th, enjoy

i have nothing but troubles with my revo 3.3 opti drive trans bought the cd and rear brake upgrade all together i spent well over a $100 dollars to get this to work right plus hours of time with traxxas support and alls the told me IDK u have other issues bs. tried the internals out of a tmaxx 3.3 trans and love it hopes this helps!!!!

It seems you are trying to find that sweet spot between fun bashing ability and good handling. I'll admit, getting the nose to point skyward is fun, but putting a center diff in it will certainly hinder the trucks ability to do that to an extent and depending on the tuning of it. To me, the more obvious solution lies in suspension setup. The truck doesn't turn on throttle because so much weight is going rearward there is little traction left at the front, so you need to find a way to limit weight transfer rearward when you accelerate. Just a shot in the dark because I've never really done any serious tuning on offroads but maybe slightly lighter front springs and/or lay down your shock angle. Also, heavier oil up front will retard the lifting affect at the nose. Heck, heavier oil all around may not be a bad thing to experiment with.

i running a 5.9 spring rate up front and 6.4 spring rate in the back along with 80wt shock oil still have tons of transfer to the back tires plus it still leans like crazy in the corners and have no problem turning under hard throttle. yes the front may slide alittle but turns very well.

1. It's stock Revo as he stated.

2. If you read the original post here, he can do wheelies, but wants to steer when he accelerates.

3. Have you ever used a rear brake kit on the Revo? I have and there is a lot of adjustment if you install it properly.

4. If you use the proper weight of oil, this will NOT happen.

5. You can buy just the FOC for the Revo as cheaply as a T-Maxx 3.3 transmission.

I did all the work on my Revo and had no problems installing the kits and getting them to work right.

every thing was installed proper my opinion i dont like them but i guess i was wrong to state my opinion on here. i have lots of expierience with these. but i guess this is another forum just like traxxas forum. when some one just joins up its an automatic we have no clue as to what we are talking about not a newb. guess ill just send the admin a message to have my account deleted and stick with the rc tech forum where i will NOT get treated like one!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently you will and are being "treated as one" then you choose to run away. With that attitude, we don't want you here anyway.

Dude, chill with the over emotional antics. Step back and look at this from a wider perspective... You gave your opinion. He gave his opinion. Not always do folks agree and that's totally fine, but you really should try to learn how to better handle it. Turning pouty and throwing an entire forum under the bus for your "mistreatment" is a bit childish don't you think?

My god, after all these years you continue to impress me with your complete lack of patience and overall butthead-ish attitude. So he got a bit defensive... big deal. Back in the day there used to be a few really good members around here that were willing to help people in a manner that was siginificantly more valuable than r/c. Posts like this, from members like you really assist me in wondering what this forum has come to. Is this acceptable now? I for one am tired of it. In my eyes it is your attitude that isn't wanted around here.

So here's to three more posts that Joe or Rob or Lloyd will flush down the drain in their best effort to keep perfectly good threads from going to hell in a handbasket because certain longtime members can't find enough decency within themselves to truly help someone. Cheers.

Hmmmm? well slightly off topic from the last few replys but back to whats important RCs. So anyhow, baseically the heavier the oil in the diffs the more power distributed to that set of wheels?

the heavier the oil , the less slip youll have ....i use plumbers putty in my rear and front diff with a few drops of oil to have some sort of lube in it ...its pretty stiff ..but has enough give so it can still slip if needed ...personally , i like that setup ;)

Plumbers putty??? Wow that would seem to not let the gears turn for $@&!. But mixed with oil. Hmmmm. What weight oil and how much? 50/50 mix or just enough oil to allow the gears to turn? I would have NEVER thought to use something as thick as plumbers putty in a million years.

some use silly putty ......i just packed my diff cup and added a couple drops of diff oil to it ...i think it was 10k oil ....and its not as stiff as you would think ...it works pretty good ;)

Nice. I'm gonna try that next time I have my diffs out. Thanks!

no prob ;) ..thats what this place is for ..share knowledge and experience ;) ...and this also solved my problem i had with a leaky diff .....I'm pretty sure it wont leak no more :hehe:

Makes perfect since. Putty don't leak unless it's extremely hot and if your diffs get that hot then you gonna have more problems than just a leak!
