I don't typically run fans. I just adjust my pinion for no worries.

But can you not rotate the can to get the tabs out of the way?

I'm already running a 12t pinion on my Outcast so I have nowhere to go gearing wise. It's a dry heat where I live so the motor just isn't cooling. On eBay I found a pinch ring style mount that I can mount the fan on its side.

The only time the fan is going to have any significant cooling impact is when the RC is not moving. Most of the time the rig will be moving and massively impacts the fans ability to cool the motor. (The one possible exception I can think of is if you have a tub type chassis and a form fitting lid then you might not be getting adequate airflow while moving.) If I put them on my rigs its only to help them cool off quicker when I stop using the rig. Ill let the rig sit there for a minute and let the heat disapate a little bit before putting the rig up.

Most of your motors temp control is through gearing. You can get a smaller pinion than 12T. I'm pretty sure they go down to at least 9T if not smaller. You can also put a bigger spur gear on it. If your motor is overheating and you dont have any more room to adjust pinion/spur size then you can also drop a cell on your battery or use a motor with a lower Kv/higher Turn rating.

Just FYSA, Not trying to say dont use a fan.

Can't down gear the Outcast because it's already there. If it was a Hobbywing I'd just melt it and call it a day, the 1515 was a bit pricey so I'm trying not to wreck it. This problem will continue till the end of September then things will cool down.
