Hey Grump; Well it seems most peeps use a non skid draw liner matt with the holes painted black and the left over areas in grey or silver. I have also used drywall mesh screne on an angle to get the carbon look. On some of my earlier stuff I also used a headlight cover with holes in it. ANd just painted black and silver. it isn't perfect or exactly to scale but from a distance or flying by it looked the part. Hope this helps. Here are acouple of pics of my Carbon Look effects.
to make it actually look like carbon fiber....make sure you lay down a little transparent black first....then do your silver in the holes from the matt...then back it with black...try to stay with the flat areas or make sure the matt is pressed tightly to the body....hope that helps
I use the shelf liner with the square holes. First I lay down the liner, then lightly mist over it with silver. Then I back it with pactra pearl charcoal rather than black. I have found this gives the most realistic cf look imo.
