Generally you want a 1mm or, preferably less idle gap.
 
Way to small of a picture. Try taking a different one, kinda looks like it's wide open. Like snook said; 1mm is ideal.

harbor fright has a caliper that is 4" long. about $20. it does inch and metric. but check it before you take it home. you can set it on metric and switch it over to compair the two.
