car bogs

i have a duratrax axis (I know crappy buggy) but anyway whenever i run in the dirt for a long time my car will bog down. what i mean is that it will rev up but only move slow. i check the temps and sometimes they are a lttle high like in the 275 range. but never higher than that. is it possible i am getting dirt into something that would cause it not to move any faster than a crawl? when i clean the buggy afterward i even take the diffs apart and re lube them there is no dirt or grime in them. I clean my buggy very regularly and it runs fine when it is not in the dirt, in the dirt it will run fine for maybe 20 minutes and then it will do what i explained above.

Ideas are very appreciated

Did you check to see if the tires have lost their thread and can't manuever in the mud?

ya they are a little old but the tires dont spin or anything when this is happening. engine just revs and moves real slow

could it be that there is dust in the clutch and that is causing it to slip?

now that i guess is a possiblility but i do my gear mesh adjustments all the time to make sure they are aligned correctly. i use the piece of paper between the mesh trick. if there is a better way i would love to know

I don't mean the gear mesh...I mean your clutch shoes slipping on the bell. The way to check this is to take the enigne out and take the clutch apart.

how would i fix that if that is happening because i took it apart yesteday and it does not look worn or anything

Have you tried cleaning the air filter or use a Motorsaver if you are not already?

also.. you may be lean bogging on the bottom end.. if the low end needles is set to lean.. what will happen.. is when you first start the car.. the motor will run fine.. but as you get less fuel.. the car will warm up.. 275, is not that good.. i race.. and i have my temps at around 240-250 @ runout.. so what happens.. is when you get less fuel in the tank.. less goes in the motor.. meaning lean bog.. not enough fuel to get the motor to run right.. also.. check your plug.. you may have damaged that..

Take the clutch bell of the motor. Use some sand paper on the clutch shoes and use some scotch bright on the inside of the bell. Put everything back together and let 'er rip!

If worse comes to worse, you can replace the clutch shoes.

a motor saver is a type of air filter. They are said to be the best filter you can get for a rc engine check them out here

I don't think you have a mechanical problem. Running in dirt is a lot of work for the car, and you rarely run at full speed, so your clutch is doing a lot of spinning and slipping, which gets it overheated.. What's happening, according to what you have explained, is your clutch bell is overheating, and the clutch shoes are slipping. When the car starts bogging, just turn it off and let it cool till the clutch bell can be touched. Then restart it. If it runs fine, that's the only problem. It just needs cool down time.

Very Interesting point. I just may try that on my Maxx as it show similar symptoms.

Again will try this on my MAXX. Also if you are really having problems with your shoes then I would consider geting some aluminum clutch shoes. If you get em I would clean them prior to installation with some denatured alocohol and a clean rag. To maintain them you have to check them for spurs as to not ruin your clutch bell.

Hey When You Dissasemble Your Diffs Do You Make A Visual Inspection Of Each Tooth, Reason I'm Asking I Had This Issue Not To Long Ago I Was Running Fine Bashing Right Along Stopped Bashing Got Something To Eat Went Back To Bashing, WTF Car Was High Revving And Just Barely Moving Puzzled Me So That Night I Tore It Down And Was Inspecting Teeth In Diff And Some Were Missing And Some Were Worn Off Just Enough Not To Mesh Properly, Just Another Thing To Consider. Not to crap on you but you should really try starting a thread instead of asking this on someones elses thread.

I have some areas you can look at but I will look for your thread when it pops up

Well, while i think its not a diff problem.. he has just made a point.. he had problems too.. and was shareing them with this guy.. to maybe check that out.. he wasn't asking.. he was saying a different scenario..
