Can I get a lesson in tires?

I am always on a tire testing quest. It never ends!

As a mountain bike racer, we live and die on tires. And all the details.

Has anyone run something I would consider "low pressure"? So no foam or super soft. Most soft tire compound. Big, and maybe even drilling the rim/wheel to get more breathing?

It seems like you want more traction. How would you compensate?
