Hi guys,
I am new to this 1/8 nitro hobby. Just got my Inferno mp7.5 and I am very excited! But in the same time I am really disapointed with the compliances the wheel have with respect to the chassis. I mean, camber, caster, toe changes greatly without moving the suspension. Why so much compliance?

I also own a 1/5 largescale (tarmac) model but its wheels are rock solid. Is my buggy supposed to be like this??:nono:

Also can you please guys suggest any after run oil for my engine?

What do you mean the caster, camber, and toe changes greatly without moving the suspension? Just sitting there it moves?! god I hope not. I'm kind of confused as to what you are getting at here...

In my experience, it's usually down to play in the ball joints/rod ends, but check also that the wheel hubs are secured properly to the axles. These are usually metal running in plastic and even if they are pretty tight now they will wear loose soon.

When the car is moving and the suspension is under load, most of the slack should be taken up.

All this would be matter greatly if it were an on-road car on a high grip track, where being able to place the car precisely on corners is crucial.

For off-road, I suspect that poor traction due to the loose bumpy surface is more likely to throw your car off course than play in the suspension arms and hubs.

Try a few high speed straight line runs on a smooth hard surface to see if your buggy tracks OK; mine has more play in the suspension than I would like and has a very cheap radio system but still drives in a straight line on hard concrete.

I know what your saying.. I use to think the same thing.. I talked to a couple engineers of the parts and they say they do that so that the tolerances are not to tight when the suspetion and pivot points get dirty, and so the suspention can operate without binding.. Once its dirty, it'll be tighter.. New cars are always sloppy..

yea... thanks guys

Should start running it and see what happens then.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.
Nice to see another Brit on here.

With regard to after run oil, I bought a bottle of Model Technics oil but I actually dispense it from an old shock oil bottle.

The Model Technics stuff is supposed to contain a corrosion inhibitor but it is widely accepted that any light engineering oil will do (3-in-One?). Some people use WD-40 (I don't). As long as the crank journals and piston have a light coating of oil they should not corrode.

well there are two reasons to use after run oil. #1 is that After run oil draws and evaporates any moisture that may be left in the engine (humidity) which helps keeps the internals from rusting. Second is for lubrication. Standard 3 in 1 oil does not do the first. I have always used Hobbico After Run oil and it works great.

I run Marvel Mystery Oil.. Its the same stuff as the " Hobbico After Run Oil ", but you can buy a huge bottle of Marvel for almost the same price as the Hobbico.. Most stores carry it too ( not sure about Europe though )..

Niggle, by the way, I am from Leeds west yorkshire. May I ask, do you buy your stuff from modelsport in Otley? Where do you bash?

I use Prather After-Run Oil. Its the same price as Hobbico but you can actually see how much you get, how much you use and the bottle doesn't leak as easily as Hobbico when laid horizontal in my tool box.

Howdy neighbour! I live in Huddersfield (work in Leeds though).

Yeah, I've had stuff from ModelSport in the past. Elite R/C Racing have opened a shop in Halifax, only a couple of miles from where I live. They deal with Schumacher so I get my stuff from them now (has to order the Swift parts in though).

At the moment I bash on the school playing fields behind my house. When I get the hang of the buggy I'd like to race at Pendle. There is a club with an off-road track at Lofthouse near Wakefield (Nook Raceway), apparently they have a mix of 1:10, 1:8 and 1:6 cars. AFAIK Pendle is strictly 1:8.
