i started checking diameter demensions on the fixed hex starting shaft on the k46. i found out the the hex is 11mm, SAY WHAT. the roto start hex fitting is 12mm. no fit, wont make a roto start that is compatible with the k46 for another 2 months the guy at HPI says. the info on the savage ss 4.6 kit says at the bottome of the info roto start compatible. when i told him this he was willing to give me a new pull start.

oh, and digitaliquid that one-way for the wasp .28 is 14mm btw.

so i ask the guy if they have, or are going the make an 11mm gear that fits this fixed hex shaft." he says not for a couple of months, but if you want to send in the new roto start you bought. when we get the new k46 roto start on the market we'll trade it out free of charge." i'll just send it in when i get it. i got a good deal on the roto start $29 shipped.

i ask him if they sold replacement pull starts and he was real cool and said," seeings how these just came out and I'm sure you bought it i'll send you a new pull start free of charge."

so i have a new pull start on the way, shocks, nova towers, shock oil, roto start that wont work. i geuss i'll be camped out by the mail box for the next week or so.

now the round part that slides in the the back of the motor is compatible diameter. i was going to get a new shaft and stick a 12 mm one way bearing on it if i couldnt get this thing up. I'm not sure how that would work cause there is an internal one way.

so i should have this thing up and dirty by next weekend.

big props to HPI for looking out for it's customers.

this is what the website says exactly about the motor:

The powerful new K4.6 engine features:

10% larger displacement than the Nitro Star S-25 engine
Billet purple anodized aluminum heatsink head for improved cooling and strength
Composite carburetor for improved heat resistance
Large 8.5mm carb opening for increased airflow
true ABC chrome sleeve construction for durability and long life
Purple anodized aluminum carb trim
Stealth black case for improved cooling
Roto Start compatible

Don't send your rotostart back yet!! I converted mine to use Rotostart last weekend using the parts I have listed in this link:
http://www.savage-central.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=287145#287145

I pullled the cord out of my Savage after the second tank of fuel. The knot must have come out of the line or something because there was no extra rope inside of the pullstart housing. After fooling around for a little while my LHS guy figured out these parts for the rotostart to work and bingo, I was able to finish the break-in.

i got the new pull start in the mail yesterday, but if there is a way to convert the roto start i have coming in the mail then i wont send it in to be replaced 2 months from now.

On my savage 25 I got a nut that fit inside the rotostart, drilled out the threads, drilled a 1/8 hole in the side threaded the 1/8 hole and put in a socket head grub screw. then cut a small flat spot on the shaft comming out of the engine and installed it. It's been about a year so far and I havent had a single problem. Clint.

Isn't this mod constantly spinning the roto start gears? :bored:

No, the engine has its own internal one way. (A little spring pin in back of the crank) The one way bearing that is originally installed is so a pull start recoils smother and is not necessary for roto start. I’ve done some research and found out the some of the Picco motor back plates for roto start have a permanent hex on them with no external one way bearing. But I'm not sure of the Hex size on them so I just made my own.
