So yesterday wat I figured was just and bad glow plug weak starter wand and or bad starter
Comes to find out the connecting road is split and snapped off the piston:(
Ran perfectly fine then it automatically just stalled and that was it

What are my options I wanted to replace just the con rod and piston but for the price I might as well get a new engine
I really don't wanna go back to the 3.3 if that's a common problem
Any easy drop in motors u guys recommend nothing expensive something between the stock 3.3 price
I was looking at the Mach 2 what ur guys take on it

Dynamite .19T mach 2 is a decent engine with bad bearings. Mine lasted 2 1/2 gallons before rear bearing come apart and damaged sleeve/piston with it. You want to upgrade to a better engine you have two other options that are direct drop in replacements with only a motor mount change. The OS .21TZ and the picco .26max. Right now www.nitrohouse.com has the Picco .26 max on sale for $149. Keep in mind with the higher torque and HP rating on a bigger engine you are going to start breaking driveline parts. So upgrades to dogbones for center shafts are a must with the picco for sure. Plus it runs best with a BB manifold and pipe which will not fit with the 8 shock set up. You may can get away with the stock manifold and a bb pipe only and keep the 8 shocks or plan on upgrading to a good big bore 4 shock set.

Yeah i forgot about that novarossi. I wouldn't mind trying that one out myself. If the picco doesn't start coming back to life after the rebuild i may just buy one.

Yea when i wear out my 3.3 on my maxx i plan to run a picco on it. Its a 4910 chassis and tranny at the moment but I'm going to turn it into a 4907 and throw some e maxx diffs in it and upgrade the center driveline i already have steel cvds in my 4910 dont really need them but went ahead with the upgrade for the future

I would go with the Rossi or the O.S engine. I have heard a lot of guys having issue's with the Picco's lately.

+1 os or the nova only prob for a maxx with the nova is that its a roto start so it may take a lil bit of modding of the shock tower but then again i havent eyeballed it

The OS .21TM is the one i been eyeballing as a replacement for the picco i currently have. Just dont have the $249 to buy it right now. I just rebuilt my picco .26 max and waiting on some McCoy mc59 plugs to come in along with a new tiger drive to stick on it to resume the break in. Its been a great engine for me. The problems i been seeing on piccos has all been on the JL RED DOT .26. I have the .26 max. Just stuck new ceramic bearings and new sleeve/piston in it last week.

what would be the best os to run in the maxx

I would recommend the OS .18. Its a drop in engine which produces enough power to be a solid basher but not so much that you have to constantly upgrade the rest of the driveline from snapping things cause of too much power like most .21's will do to a stock truck. The other upgrades you have in the truck will help dictate how big of an engine you can reliably run. My Maxx 2.5 is just a basher and with the exception of the OS .18 and I havent had any issues with breaking other stuff in an all stock truck

okay so i decied to go back with the 3.3 i have money to get those other engines but i wanna upgrade other stuffs with it and I'm not a racer just a weekend play toy.so i think I'm fine with the 3.3 but now i will be more prepared temp gun always on hand tuning card with me all times and proper break in process and alot of asked question on here and my lhs..i was looking at the david or davis connecting rod should i put on in there when i get my new motor? or is that not necessary?

since my transmission is out should i just do a foc and keep the two speed? and what pinion and spur gear ratio should i use

ok so i might change my mind ill look into so other engine what would be the most reliable in the 3.3 price range.. I'm just worried i dont wanna snap another rod again especially just seaing posts of people snapping rods at break in process

is this motor compatible

I will be the voice of reason. If you settle for a 3.3 engine, than treat it how it was intended to be treated. Traxxas recommends a simple 5 tank breakin. than give it a 5 tank break in and let er rip.

Its not to your benefit to baby it or throw parts at it. Think about it like this. you spent half the price of an O.S. If you get half the life of an O.S. than you come out even. its all good.

The Traxxas 3.3 and 2.5 engines are good engines. I am still running two #4910 maxx trucks with the 2.5 engine and they prob got like 6 gallons or more on each engine. The 3.3 does have the rod issues. Also it seems to me that the Picco .26 red dot has some bearing and carb problems. I can tell you I had a O.S .18 and it was a screamer and lasted forever. Also the Sirio .18 maxx engine runs great and it will drive circles around my 3.3 all day. Wish they would have disco that engine.

b4 upgrading me motor I'm going to turn the truck into a 4907 and all cvds will be steel so ill be able to run the .26 but I'm also thinking os idk I havnt decided yet syill gonna be thinking on iy for a while tho

#1 - From what I've read about them the 2.5 and 3.3 are notorious for weak con rods so an upgrade there wouldnt hurt at all and would be a wise investment.

#2 - FOC all the way!!! With the amount of mass you will remove from the tranny you will notice easier wheelies and more power as there is less spinning mass to move and transfer the power to the ground will be much more efficient.

#3 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/OS-Max-18-C...adio_Control_Control_Line&hash=item2ec8261e9c It says RC10GT but can be mounted to a maxx without issue. Because of the carb you would have to redo the linkage but its not too difficult of a job.

If you do go aftermarket engine I would suggest an aftermarket exhaust as well. I run a Revo Vantage pipe on my .18 which doesn't have a ton of lowend power but gives gobs of top end. Its a great combo for me cause the tune and pipe allow me to keep the front tires on the ground until the power kicks in and shifting into 2nd at which time the front end can come up with ease if I choose. Theres nothing like pulling a wheelie whenever you want in a truck thats already doing 40mph+

Ok so when replacing the con rod in a broken in engine does it need to go through the breaking process

Anytime you replace any moving part its always wise for some type of break in to wear the new pc into the old pcs sort of speak. This situation should be fine if your piston and sleeve didnt take on any damage from the old conrod breaking. Did you look over the P/S for nicks/gouges? Either way taking it "easy" for a couple tanks is good practice but doesn't have to be done for a new conrod

+1 os 18tm
I bought a 2.5 maxx from ebay for 90 bucks the had an old 18tm on it cleaned and resealed it fired it first pop and it is an awesome engine , its my go to truck when I need a quick nitro release set and forget
Getting a bit hard to find nowdays
I honestly wouldnt waste my time on a 3.3 spend the extra and get a good quality engine
