Hey guys, taking the plunge tonight with the SS. So far all I have done is the 4 spider mod and the double disc brakes on the tranny. I am getting ready to continue on. I was just wondering if any of you have some advice to give from experience because DAMN....that's a lot of parts. I got the Hot Bodies aluminum shocks and of course forgot the shock oil. I can get the oil tomorow before I put them on (what weight is good?)

I appreciate all the help I get. I have been going through a lot of the old posts for weeks now and found lots of great stuff here.

If you haven't picked up the parts for the Monster Pirate steering set-up, I'd recommend adding that to your list. As for the Hot Bodies shocks, I can't give you a good recommendation other than to not use them. Being that you already have them, I'd suggest a 30-50 wt silicone and some stiff springs.

Don't forget the locktite.

Never even heard of the Monster Pirate steering set-up, got a link? What's wrong with the shocks?

*edit* Oh, and I am only as far as doing the turnbuckles. So i got one of those done and the front and rear dif and tower setup.

You can find the information regarding the Monster Pirate mod at the first thread in this section of the forum. CLICK HERE

I had a set of Hot Bodies shocks. I had no problems with them. I heard several bad stories about them. I decided to change my suspension set up to handle some more hardcore jumps, and removed the shocks. They were still in near new condition. I sold them with my Savage as a roller and the new owner took less than a week to pretty much tank the entire set of shocks. So personally, I have had no problems with them...but so far I have heard very few success stories.

The turnbuckles are another area you might consider upgrading. Lunsford makes a 1/8 scale conversion set of Titanium turnbuckles that are just about bulletproof. I had a set on my Savage and never had a problem. I highly recommend them.CLICK HERE AND SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST

When I dumped the Savage length shocks, I went to New Era upper a-arms that could take 1/8 scale buggy shocks and ran buggy shocks at the four corners (1 per corner). That set up was quite tough. Recently, some members have experimented and managed an even beefier set up by running with 2 buggy shocks per corner. Talk about being able to take a landing from almost any height. That would be my primary recommendation, but it ain't cheap.

You might find the shocks you have work just fine. Like I said, I have no personal negative experience with them.

The roller Sky is talking about is now mine... I did trash all 8 of the shocks in the first day of bashing. I was only hitting about 6 feet of air (if that) and the discs inside the shock got all messed up. 5 of the actually snapped the e-clip, the other three domed out the disk so it would bind real bad.

I went with the new era/supermaxx shocks set up that he was talking about. It's definatly an improvement. I've run about a gallon through the truck since and it's holding up just fine.

If possible, send the hb shocks back before you oil them up.

Ok, finally found a store that had all the parts for the MP servo saver mod. As for the shocks, I already opened the package. I am going to try them regardless but I am going to use the shorter SS springs with them. Other mods I got; 3 shoe clutch, ofna throtle linkage, 2-stage motorsaver, double disck brakes, 4 spider mod - more to come. Using the Futaba 3PM w. the 3305 and the 3004 servos, after getting many recomendations on it. Using a hump pack 1000mah (didn't have the 1100.) Thats about it.

I still don't see a fuel filter on your list?.?.?.

Sure, sure, kick me while I'm down. LHS made me travel to them to find out the do not have any of the parts for the MP mod...even though they said they had them in stock. OMW out now to another store where I will get the ff along with other things. Might have to go w/o the MP mod for now.

Finally! Got all the parts. Only thing I had to differ on was an IMEX server arm which seems to be identical to the Ofna one and this one is Futaba specific.
