Hi All,

I know this site has plenty of hardware geeks and computer nerds, ( you know who you are) LOL but I came across this tutorial on how to build a computer.

It is very clear and the layout out is well done.

If anyone is interested you can go to

Enjoy

nice link sly. lots of good info. this industry changes so much. you have so many processors and compatibility issues and junk and it changes constantly. for work, it's cheaper just to order pre built systems from Dell. they also have a good quality control system to the chances of getting a lemon motherboard from dell is almost nill.

i would build my own pc for home, but i just don't have any interest in computers anymore. i think work has me burnt out on them. i see computers as a job and not entertainment.

Yea i only build systems for my home network. ( Mostly overclocked AMD Boxes) I have giving up on overclocking. Stock chips are just so fast and so cheap its no longer worth it. But the Fans certainly look cool.

At work i manage over 700 dell workstations and we have some kick ass dell servers we just ordered. my new file server and PDC were 10G's each .....its fun to get toys lol

Words cannot describe my hatred for brand name computers. Weird proprietary parts, that make it difficult if not impossible to upgrade, substandard components to prices down, and all that crap software they load them with that just slows the system down and makes it crash.

I can build my own cheaper, it'll be more stable, and probably faster with the same specs.

Nice link, msly. I hang out on their forums. It was a tutorial like that that helped me build my first system. I'd only been into computers for about a year when I built it, but that compaq *screams* was all I needed to swear off the OEM brands for good.

I so agree with your point about doing it cheaper, and I only build my own systems... except for my laptop. But when it comes to PVT industry or any other buisness for that matter getting a Name brand computer is the way to go. We use dell computers mainly and we get 3 years warranty on them. The turn around on bad parts is about 2 days, With a name brand computer you do get the years and thousands of dollors of RnD that goes into building a computer. Sometimes I have ran into things like parts not playing nice together in system I have built.

But as far as computers I use my self, I love building them from the ground up, I also like to custom build them for special uses like Hard disk recording music.

My wife wants to kill me sometimes... I have had active directory networks in my kitchen....with Linux boxes and a sco unix box for good measue.

Next stop Beowolf cluster LOL...
Cluster mm mm mm

If I was in charge of computers for a company, I'd probably go with some brand name, too. IT guys take enough crap as it is. You know if a computer you built for the company runs into a problem you'll never hear the end of it.

I'm building a new computer today i order the parts so ill be offline for awhile
