i have been reading this forum and several others lately and i have to say i am very impressed with the knowledge base on the traxxas t maxx on this site. so i wanted to bounce a question off of you guys, if you dont mind.
I'm running a tmaxx with 8 Losi 8ight rear shocks on it. they have the stock pistons in them and have a 15mm bore, and plastic caps. i have the truck set fairly high and i am running big wheels. i usually run in the very rough stuff (rough grass with bumpy under terrain, and dirt pits). i am powering it with an lrp .28. my question is what weight of oil would you reccomend? i really want it to soak up the bumps like a king, and to be able to jump it 9 or so feet up with very light bottoming out if any. i was thinking of taking out the 40 wt i am running and putting in 20 wt. what do you guys think? because of the long stroke on these shocks will it still dampen the action enough to prevent damage?

I was thinking more on the lines of 30wt. I am not sure if I would drop all the way down to 20 or not. I am pretty sure that would be way too soft and cause a lot of roll overs from excessive body roll. Jumping from that high i am not sure if I would want to do that with only 4 shocks either. Those are nice shocks though.

You may want to see if you can find some soft springs for those shocks. Buggy springs are way stiffer than springs made for an 8 shock rig. I would find considerably softer springs and drop down to 30 weight or so.

I ran supermaxx shocks (modified OFNA 9.5 1/8 buggy shocks) on my maxx when I had it, but I only ran 4 shocks total. Pretty sure I ran 50 weight with springs that were fairly stiff that came with them. Much later, I bought 8 actual OFNA 9.5 rear shocks (with springs) and put them on my savage (aftermarket towers). It was stiff as a board. I could practically drop it off a building without it bottoming out, but it was tough as heck to drive since it just bounced all over the place. I now have normal old savage shocks back on it as I never really hunted for softer springs.
