Buggy questions.

I need a little help choosing a buggy.

I currently own a pretty mint Mayhem. I found out yesterday that it is discontinued, and the Turmoil is the "new" one.

I am regretting buying the buggy in the first place, and I wish I would have purchased a Hyper 7. Now that the Hyper 8 is out, and the 8ight... I want to get a kit.

I have owned tons of RC, and I am sick of rtrs. I want to build a kit!!

So.. my questions are...

1. What is the new "Hyper 7"? You know, the most popular buggy that gets the most parts support and will be a current model for at least 3 or 4 years.

2. Is is better to get a pro kit or a regular kit??

3. Is the 8ight kit a pro kit or a regular model kit?? Does it have advantages of the rtr??

I posted this on "another" forum too. I am really trying to think this thing out.. unlike the last RC purchase I made.

First answer a few questions

What is your intended use? Race or Bash?

Second How much do you want to spend, this will be a big determining factor.

Money is not a factor.. well it is.. but not for RC!! haha

I want a great basher and racer. I want to race, and I have my eye on two tracks. If they open, I will probably race.

Hard to say what will have "legs" and stay for several years. Since the 1/8 buggy's have been more popular they have been coming out with new ones all the time.
The Jammin's have been out for a while already, and the FTE kit is hard top beat. Personaly I would skip the 8ight.They are having some issues right now, so I would hold off until they are solved. You could look into Xray. BUT the XB8 has been out for a while now, in different versions. Does that mean a "new" one will come out after you pick up a new "old" XB8? Dont know.

I will say this, comparing the new buggys to a "old" Hyper 7, racing comes down to the driver. You can still get any part you want for a H7 online, and at most LHS. So whatever buggy you choose,as long as it was somewhat popular, you should be able to get parts for it.


A PRO kit vs regular kit.... all depends on what you want. Pro kits just add some things, usually with the racer in mind. But the basher will like them as well. Things like thicker towers,captures h-pins, hard anodizing, are all nice things to have. So I think most PRO kits are worth it if you have the extra to spend.

I would say the Jammin FTE or the new Mugen would be your best bet for a raceable,bashable, long lived kit.

You should also consider what is the best for getting parts for, the more exotic, the more difficult and because most likely you will wants parts ASAP, you should see what your local hobby store sells.

If I was you, I would be looking at 3 buggies, the Xray XB8R, the Xray XB8 TQ, and the Mugen MBX5R. The prices are $345, $560, and $600 for those three. From there its up to your preference and how much you want to spend. The XB8R is much cheaper and will handle just about as good as the TQ version, but it comes without all the aluminum goodies. Between the XB8 TQ and the MBX5R its preference. Both are great buggies.

Those are just the buggies that I like. You could look at Kyosho kits, but they are harder to find parts for.

I am still trying to figure out if the 8ight kit is a pro kit or just a kit version of the rtr.
It seems to me that it is a rip off if it is.

A rip off if it is the exact same kit as the rtr is what I meant.

I might have to hold off on the buggy kit now. Check out what I won on ebay last night.

Hope you got the whole"arrow" thing sorted. It looks like someones project.

That is the extra chassis, not the main factory team one.
If you look at the description, it comes with the extra chassis, front and rear end assemblies, extra carbon graphite kit, and an extra factory team cvd.
So that is the "extra" car. He told me that someone he knew hacked it up to lighten it. But it does have almost enough parts to build a second car.. which I am going to do. I am also excited about having a starter box. I have never owned one, and I would like to start using them.
