Bad link.

I run the Dynamite duel chamber pipe. Its a good pipe and the price is right.

I believe HB runs the same one. He will be on vacation till late monday or Tues.

rice, if i remember right, you're looking for a pipe that doesn't give your mom a headache? someone correct me if i'm wrong, but having two chamber (dual chamber pipe) should reduce the noise?

If that's the case, the dual chamber pipes like the one eddy is suggesting should help. I think if I recall from one of humboldt's pervious posts, the storm rtr comes with a single chamber pipe.

Other than that, I don't know what pipes reduce noise the best.

thx a lot guys, I'm ordering the dynamite dual chamber one.

Meanwhile, I'm taking apart my diffs and shocks to put oil in them.
I ordered 50 and 40 for the shocks and 7k, 5k, 3k for the diffs. That should be fine right?

most people put 1K in the rear diff and mainly adjust the value of the front diff.

5k front / 7k center / 1k rear

as far as shocks go, I'm a real newbie in that department. properly filling and bleeding the shocks is a ticky manuver that I haven't quite mastered yet. be sure to read as much as you can on it before you take the shocks apart.

both of these jobs are pretty damn hard. i would hold off on those things for now until you have some experience fixing things. changing the diff lube requires taking the diffs out which is a lot of wrenching.

good luck,
Rob

For the shocks start with the 40.
Shocks are easy to fill.

Empty all the old oil out. Take the top off and pump the shock over a trash can get as much out as possible. Unless its way dirty, just let them sit upside down on a paper towel and drain. If there is crud in the oil, flush them with DA and let them dry.

To fill, open the shaft up all the way then push it in about 1-2 cm. fill 90% and let them sit for 5 min or so.

Slowly pull down on the shaft and you will see some air bubbles coming to the top. Let the shock sit for another 5 min.

Pump the shaft several times quickly making sure you don't breach the top of the oil. Let the shock sit for 5 more min.

Top off the shock slowly to the point that the oil domes over the top edge.

Remove the bladder from the cap and wipe it dry along with the inside of the cap. On the Storm make sure the 2 little holes in the cap are not plugged.

Insert the bladder back into the cap making sure it isn't folded and seats evenly against the ridge.

Slowly and evenly place the cap on top of the shock. Do not try and screw it on yet. Just let it settle on.

slowly give the cap a twist on about 1/8th turn and stop. Do this several times until you see air bubbles and oil coming out of the 2 holes in the cap. At this point go to 1/16th turns until the cap is seated.

There is no need to tighten the cap more than hand tight. Doing so can damage the bladder seal. Clean everything up with a towel.

If needed you can replace the bladders and shaft seals. I like to do this every 3-4 times of refilling.

I hope this helps.

Tip:
Once the cap is on a thread or two, hold the shock by the cap and turn the shock.

i too have those shocks with the holes in the top for easier bleeding.

that was a damn good piece of info Eddy. thanks.

That is some great info Eddy. I have also wondered if I was bleeding my shocks correctly. Did you make some kind of stand to hold on to the shocks? One question. What if the shocks don't have bladders? Would I have to do anything differently?

I use this holder I got 4-5 years ago. I have seen a nifty little unit that fits over a beer can. You can empty your shock oil into the can and the shocks hang around the edge.

If you don't have bladders you will need to fill the cap with oil and quickly get the cap on the shock body. IE: Ae shocks.

Losi shocks have a bleeding slot in the side of the cap insert.
The idea is to have as little air in the shock as possible.

Thanks for the info Ed. I am running AE shocks on my Maxx. I always wondered about that void in the cap. I don't recall the instructions even mentioning that step.

Edit: Does someone still make a stand like that?

After you bleed and fill and cap off your shocks.....if you were to compress the piston (no spring) is it suppose to rebound or push back out again? When I bought my first rc this year ( I'm on #3 already) the shocks came prefilled and they rebounded after compression. Every shock I've refilled since then (about 2-3 times each shock on all 3 rides) they have never rebounded. Am I missing something?

I fill my shocks almost exactly as you stated above Eddy. The only thing i do different is i dont wait so long after putting the cap on and tightening it.

I think Sky mentioned that he uses the Traxxas bladders in his AE shocks. If they fit it would make sense to use them. I don't like AE Shocks just for that reason. I find them hard to bleed.

I did a mod to my AE shocks,
I drilled a tiny little hole in the top of the shock and fill them with an injector and syringe. When they are full I use a setscrew to seal the hole off. The only issue is you need to compress the shocks on the truck while they are being filled otherwise you can overfill them and blow them out.

Yes shocks should rebound around 25% without a spring.

thx, eddie, any tips about filling the diffs. I took my car apart today to get the diffs out in anticipation of my package coming this weekend. :marshall:

just fill the diff case only half way with oil. the oil should come to the center of the two pins that hold the spider gears. you will want to add the oil, wait 5 minutes, check the level and add more as needed.

Finally, after many hours of wrench time and sore wrists, my differentials are in and my shocks have oil. This was yesterday at around noon. I start the car, it idles beautifully. I hit the throttle. The car drives backwards and rams into my foot. After five minutes of thinking and hopping around in pain, i realise what i did. I put the diffs in backwards. 30 minutes later i go back out and the car works perfectly. I'm still messing with the hsn tho. How hot should the stock engine run. Its running at 220 now, but I've heard i can go anywhere between 220 and 260. What is it really?

Thx,
Andrew
