Hi all i'm looking for bit of advice on brushless set up for my son he is only 6 but wants nitro truck! and after letting him lose with my trophy 4.6 he is way to young (my pockets ent deep enough:hehe:) He already has XTM 1/10 racing truck with 10t motor but just like me he want more power! would brushless be the way to go? and what should i be looking out for when choosing? I have very limited knowledge of nitro but on electric I'm a virgin so please use lube and go steady :whhooo:
Any advice would be gratefully received

I'd go for a lower kv rating, especially for a youngster. That way heat won't be as much of an issue if he's a bit abusive or hits the grass hard. Go with a system that leaves some room for more voltage as his skills improve over time. Something in the 3000kv range on the motor and an esc that can handle 3s or 9 cell nimh. Uping the voltage will add speed when he's ready. What batteries are you running now? A 10t motor is pretty hot. I wouldn't want to recommend something that is slower than his current setup, but would really hate for you guys to over heat and ruin a new motor. What kind of terrain do you guys run on?

If he can handle that nitro he sure can't handle brushless....Brushless is faster and has a lot more torque!

I would recommend a traxxas VXL system. It's not the top of the line but it's fully waterproof, has a training mode, can handle up to a 3s lipo, has built in low voltage detector and can be found new on ebay for just over $100.00. If you spend the money on a 3s lipo that XTM 1/10 with a vxl system will out run your trophy 4.6...Might make you want to give up nitro LOL

You might also want to look at a Traxxas Rustler VXL. It has the VXL brushless and the newer versions have a 2.4 GHz radio included. It's $350 RTR.

Endless hop ups as well. Aluminum bulkhead, carriers and rpm a-arms and it's virtually indestructible. Real fun rig. 2.2 monster truck tires(Mashers:) make it more versatile on rougher surfaces as well.

Well I can tell you that my son started with this Rustler 3 years ago and he just turned 10, It started life as a regular rustler but over time we built it into a VXL. Now it is indestructable and is pretty much all RPM except for some aluminum castors and such but it is his go to RC:) As far as speed the VXL is nice because you can always slow it down with either the esc or by choosing to use Nimh batteries and you don't have to worry about water.

About 45 sec in is the Rusty playing in the Mud and I believe it was running on a Nimh.

Hi i didnt really want to replace the howl rig because I'm sure i can't delay buying him nitro long enough to justify it, if i can get thing moving with what he has!
Thanks again

Thats what my boy need's:angry: it must be age thing! thats cool paint job looks crisp to he paints better than me by far! Was it from rattle can?
Once again thanks for the advice :D

I helped him with some of the masking but he picked the lines, colors and sprayed the paint.

looking good start them early and hone the skills! I haven't let my son lose with the paint yet although he has been looking at some shells:( Thanks again for the advice and i will let ya all know what we decide to do.

Hi all just wanted to thank ever one again for the advice and give you a little up-date! I got what i thought was a bargain of e-bay the same truck that my boy already has but with brushless motor and esc its Mtroniks genesis sport plus with plasma 4400kv brushless motor and cirrus 2channel tx/rx i only gave him 75.00 GBP. Any body heard of these? any tips and tricks would be most appreciated
Thanks again for all the advice
