Brush hood alignment?

Any good links?
I was told (By HobbyClown) that I should purchase a $25.00 alignment tool (and use it) to increase the performance of my stock motor.

What do you guys know about this?

I've got a Parma/PSE tool that I paid $8 for... Looks like a capitol H, and does both standup and laydown types. Pretty handy tool for new motors.

Edit; You'll notice a bit more top end, but overall, not that much of an improvement. It really comes in handy if you have a stock motor lathe, for those non-rebuildable motors (that force you to remove the brush hoods).

If you'd like to see a scan of the paper that came with it, let me know.

there are a bunch of tools out there (trinity, parma, big jim). the task for aligning the hoods are trial and error and i can never get the hoods correctly aligned. that is why i gave up and now just purchased professionally tuned motors for basically the same price as non-tuned motors ($50). i currently use surge 19T atlas based motors. these were purchased tuned and dynoed for only $42. it saves me the headache and all i have to do is re-true the comm and change brushes.

It couldn't hurt. :shrug: Personally, I'd borrow a tool from a friend to do this, if it's just a one-time shot.

get one that has all the goodies done to it already. that's what most of the fast guys at my track do. you can purchase tuned stock motors from the following places:

the perform a bunch of tasks to the motors to get the maximum power out of the motors, such as hood alignment, polishing bushings, armature balancing,shimming, etc. why do the work when an experienced person can do it for you for the same price?
