ok was out bashing for a few hours earlier today. when i was getting ready to come home for dinner. i just wanted to get rid of the rest of the gas so i was doing some back and fourth runs and all the sudden...cling clack pow. horrible noises started coming out of it. i stopped checked what i could plainly see. and nothing. started it again. went good for a few minutes than the same thing. so i took it home. took the engine out and what did i see, my clutch bell with about half the teeth missing

what could have caused this?

WOW i never seen anyone strip the clutch bell and i don't know how it happend unless u have a metal spur gear and it striped the clutch like it would a plastic spur.

He said he replaced the spur... Sorry to say Matt, if your bell is stripped you need a new one :( Although if I may, I'd suggest taking that steel spur off in the first place. If your gear mesh is set right then your (plastic) spur will not strip. By putting a steel spur on you take away a weak point, not a good thing to do.

well. thats your problem.. the metal spur gear. they have few good points.. ide stick to plastic.. if a gear is going to go, you want the spur gear to be blasted first.. its cheap and easer then replacing any thing else.. also, when rocks and or sand get stuffed in there, the metal will have no give. id say dich the metal or stock up on clutch bells..

If you are going to use a steel spur, than its to be expected. Either replace the clutchbell with an hardened CB from Robinsons, or replace the spur and CB back to stock material. Soing what youd did is like building a rally car for dirt but put foam tires on it. Just is not the right set up.

I hate to agree with itsalifeworthliving, (J/K) but he's got it right.

ok i got ya. i didnt know. they should really be more specific when you buy that stuff what exactly it is used for

Yep. Live and learn. I had a similar issue when I ran a old savage CB against a hardened spur. It lasted 3/4 of a tank my t-maxx (21 conversion 4+ years ago...) using RRP's 1/8 scale pitch spur.

I was driving at dusk and at 3/4 tank, I saw a spray of sparks and heard a gut wrenching sound...

The end result was this:

Hey Olds I was just about to post a picture that looks exactly like that. Yup live and learn...hardened is the way to go....
