What's the best way to break in new brushes? I'm replacing the springs and brushes in my motor, and I don't want to trash the new ones, straight off.

I think you could use a dremel. Thats what i have seen people do. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the link. I'll deffinately be adding com drops to the list of things I'm ordering, now.

Okay PiErow, I'll correct you. Definately not the right thing to do.
Also, Greyryder, com drops are just amazing. Don't be without it.

Thanbks rolex. I'm not an electric guy. I saw them doing this in a book with sealed endball motors.

PiErow, the purpose of breaking in brushes is to get a 'square' block to wear down to a good 'fit' on a round commutator. I can't imagine how anyone could expect to get it right with a Dremel without some sort of computer guidance.
There's also the water break-in, running it under water at half voltage. The water keeps it cool, keeps it under load, and also flushes out the dust.
It needs to be thoroughly blown out and lubed after this process.
Some people swear by this, and others won't even attempt it. I saw that process demonstrated on DIY channel's R/C Hobbies show.

Ok in the maintaining your motor section of the Performance Rc Bokk by rccaraction it says you can use adremel to break in the bushingings in a bushing only motor. That is where i got that.

Oh, okay, got it. I guess that means you chuck the motor shaft in the Dremel and spin the motor with it. That's interesting info, and it makes sense.
Now it's my turn to thank you for a new tip. I would never have thought of it.

I actually went looking through a lot of the tips on that site. I'm still decideing which method I want to use, to break the new brushes in.

Thanks to both of you.

And again, why on earth break brushes in with water if you're using an open endbell motor???

Ok well first never use a dremel on new brushes, The water methos is a good breakin method. I have done the water on a few motors and it worked good for me. But it is a matter of choice on the method you use. But do not let the dremel be your prefered method that's just insane......

What's wrong with the dremel method? I probably won't be using it, because I don't have break in drops, and I tend to keep this truck to a shoestring budget. It doesn't get run a lot, as the only place I have to run is the yard, and it's insanely boring, unless it's buried in snow, or half flooded from rain.

(As you can see, I only run it in under optimal conditions :) )
