I just got my savage x 4.6 and start it up for the first time and it seems is doing Ok with the first tank, but there is alot of fuel coming out of the exhaust. I'm going to let this first tank go and then do the other 2 running it in circles at half throttle as book saids, but wondering if it is normal for the fuel to come out that way. Any suggestions?

Well run the second tank and still there is lots of fuel residue on the right side of the chassis and some got to the shock and A-arms, so is this normal??? is like a pinkish goo

some is normal, its supposed to be on the rich side during break in. but it sounds like you are over rich. which is normal as well. most companies send them over rich. do you have a temp gun? if you do what are your temps? if not, lean it out just a little. 1/8th turn at a time until it runs better. but dont go to far, your still in breakin.

I think it was like 230 or so...not sure will post it with the next tank

Ok, I just run a 3rd tank and the temp during the process was not higher than 140 F. Also after i stop the vehicle it moves by it self little by little, so that will be the throttle? If the running temps should be between 225-250, how can I get my truck to run hotter? outside temp right now is 68F with a 14mph wind. So do I need to move clockwise the high needle and the low one? or what should I do?
Thanks

140 is to cool. you need to lean the hsn until you get at least 200. the HSN is the one in the copper upright where the fuel line connects. the LSN is in the end of the carb slide (or rotor if its a roto carb). your idle screw is unter the carb and sticks our at a 45deg angle to the case. you may need to lower your idle as you lean the rig.

just remember the needle is a valve, you tighten it to make the passage smaller. so leaner, (less fuel) is tighten or clockwise. richer (more fuel) is loosen or counter.

move it in small increments, with a few half throttle runs around the area to let the settings settle in before temping again. 1/8th turn at a time. you need at least 200 to 220 for break in. then tune for performance. there is a tuning flowchart on here that will help you a lot. just you need to wait till after breaking to tune for performance.

ok, thanks for the info. well I just got another tank on it and got the temp to 200, but it doesn't sound too good and now it moves more when at stop so will adjust the idle. Do I have to mess with the low sped needle? the book saids not to but......

you want to leave that one for last. get through break in first. then tune the hsn, then the low. the low will also affect idle more.

how many tanks does it take to break in? I was thinking about 3-4, but maybe more? and the good thing now is there is not much fuel coming out of exhaust now...now I just need to clean the mess around chasis! lol

the manual should tell you. its different for all rigs. i would do more like 8-10

well manual saids about 4 but will do more to be sure! also so when do i start doing the air filter cleaning and after run oil and all that? do i wait till break in is done or I should have done it already? and thanks again for help

if you leave it for more then a day, you need to do ARO. you also need to put the piston at Bottom dead center after every run before the engine cools. the air filter you clean as needed.

ARO? what is that? sorry but I'm new with nitro and learning more about it every time I touch the truck! could you elaborate please? and do what with the piston? how do I do that? Thanks

after run oil.

with the piston. you want the piston to be at the bottom of the stroke when the engine cools. if its still up at the top, when the sleeve cools it could pinch the piston and it will get stuck. plus this stretches out the sleeve and wears out the sleeve faster.

Ah ok, will do the ARO and the piston...well piston you said before engine cools so I guess will run another tank while adjusting the HSN and once done then do the piston deal. Thanks again.

depending on the fuel that u run u may need to use the after run oil .. some companies have the aro mixed in with there fuel i use morgan fuel in has all the rust inhibiters and the after run oil premixed in the fuel it is a 20% nitro blend i use it in my nitro trucks and have not had any problems the big thing is not to store your truck with fuel in it
