ok,it turns out starter was playiun up.i thort battery was flat.took me 2 days to work that out...i got it fired up.it idles alittle hi but il adjust idle screw.it idles but then it seems to want to take off, like someones squeezin half throttle, then drops back to idle and then revs again.temp got to 200 before i shut it off.when i pinch fuel line it instantly dies.

Remove the air filter. First things first, turn on the elctronics and leave the engine off. Check that you have the carb slide gap at roughly 1mm.
Set your throttle linkage so that the carb slide rests against the idle adjustment screw.
Then pull full throttle, you want it to completely open the carb slide without putting it in a bind.
Start the truck, if it still does the same thing richen the LSN 1/4 turns until it settles down to a decent idle.
For the pinch test it should rev up and diie quickly after 2-3 seconds.

You are definitely WAY too lean on the LSN. That accounts for the high idle, the quick overheat and cutting out instantly when you pinch the line.

well i richened lsn half turn out from flush and i does same thing.idles nice then the revs rise like its gonna run away, then they drop back to a nice idle then up again.by this time its gettin hot and i shut motor off.this isnt any good for the break in hey.i got more oil comming out pipe but...

i held my finger on throttle so it couldnt move, had my hand on motor.it starts first pop!idles great for bout 2o,30 seconds and then the revs pick up,and I've got my finger on it!!!! wots goin on?!!i know its somethin easy but i can't work it out!!and its gettin hot qwik still.u gotta help me!! rolex?scrogg?olds?SOMEONE SAVE THE XLs OWNER FROM PULLIN HIS HAIR OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!could it be air leaking in from the shimms under coolin head?could it have anything to do with the manifold grommet?......this sux.

Now that we've been through the LSN issue and pinch test, it seems to narrow it down to an air leak. You'll need to pick up some RTV red sealant at an auto store and seal the carb neck and back plate.

Is the manifold grommet in good condition? A tear in it or any exhaust leakage will give you a fit.
Sounds like Rolex is right, you have a leak that is only actually leaking once the engine gets warm.
Go buy some O2 sensor safe high heat resistant sealant, needs to be good for at least 300F or better. Seal the carb to the block, seal the pinch bolts for the carb, seal the backplate. Also seal the al. end cap of the carb where it joins to the carb body. Smear the sealant right over that MSN too. You'll never need to adjust it, it is another spot prone to leaking.
The last time I had an engine do this exact problem to me, the HSN housing was not tight enough in the carb. It appeared tight but was sucking air causing the same conditions you mentioned.

the guy at lfhs didnt have the rite groms and sold me .21 groms.he told me they be rite.when i was blowin fuel down to carb,i swear i saw an air bubble come from msn,i wasn't sure but, there alot of fumes in my shed.should i seal cooolin head to?I've had it off twice.when i get my xl goin I'm goin to jump my house.id rather tear a wheel clean off than fuk around like this.least id know wot the problem was.

hey guys, just want to say thanks to rolex, scrogg and olds for helpin sort my truck out.it was the mid speed that was leaking air and it was also running abit lean.without ur advice id still be stuffin around.runnin it it the new skool way takes ages,it better be worth it.thanx again,I've learnt heaps from u guys and hopefully wsill lean a heap more!! savage xl the tuffest truck eva.my mate just got a lst2 and i cabt wait to blow the shocks clean off it!!

hey olds, thanx for ur help.i just used rvt sealer and smeared it over like u said.i did the backing plate too.there was alot of oil in the starter gears.its so good to have my xl goin again hey.there is 4 of us down here who are just gettin into the sport and we all alittle green.we have 7 trucks between us.we spent 24 hrs upgrading shocks and gettin rid of reverse gear and puttin in nitrate gears in lst2 the other nite.took us awhile to tune it,but goin sweet now thanx to this site.u guys deserve a medal,or aleast get paid.

Unfortunatly i was unable to help with this situation, but am glad the site was able to get you up and going in the right direction.

I had so many prob's with the 5.9... I put a picco p3 .28 in it, and by by problems

We have a house rule, here at RCNT. When we can get you up and running, you need to post pics of what you broke when you ran it.
That's the only way we know you enjoyed it. :D

Still waiting for ONE of YOUR pictures. You know, some carnage pics. I am sure you have some. You know, shelf glass breaking cause of the 20lb truck, dehumidifier failing and getting some oxidation on some aluminum, SOMETHING.

LMAO!!
That's really funny.
Uhhhh.....it also gives me even MORE to worry about. :jittery::depress:

Honestly, i do need to see some more pics of your savage. I allready copied your linkage idea, right down to the fuel tubing, but i used the orange fuel tubing.

And to the maker of this post, how powerful is that 5.9? Let's say, compared to an Axial .28 spec 1s. Wondering if you or anyone had experience with both. This axial is really starting to get to me.

I ran the axial in my aftershock for about..... a week. Then jumped up to the LRP .28 spec 3. The axial is now a paperweight, exactly what its main purpose is.
