i just got my very 1st nitro about a week ago(savage x 4.6), i have read all kinds of break in tips:\ but can anyone tell me the very best way to do it right? i want my engine to last for a long time. do i need to just follow the DVD that came with it??

I'm in the same boat...err truck;) Have read a dozen different ways to break them in and now I'm not sure which way to go. Just don't want to shorten the life on the engine and have to start saving for a replacement.:\

Ok guys try reading the following articles, both are found on this very forum.

Also, try to use the "search" option locatedabove the banner at the top of each page and directly below the banner that shows your status. (member name, date of last visit etc)

This Thread deals with the "Heat cycling method" engine break-in process. It also contains some useful links.

You may also find THIS THREAD of interest. It may be long, but it is full of good advice and definately worth reading.

I hope this helps you find what you are looking for guys.

heat method seems to be the top chocie of pro's but if you wanna be safe and take no chance's just break it per the manuel that came with it. it will not steer you wrong

Thanks guys. I think I made the right choice when I joined this forum. Sorry for not using search, was just a bit excited after having just got my truck and this being the first weekend above 50:angry: Again, thanks for the suggestions, this is going to be a fun and exciting hobby.:)

That method is listed somewhere in one of the threads i posted the links to in my last post samrsnow.

I use a hybrid version of that, but as your experience grows, you will find your "Own" unique way to break an engine in.

Yea mine came with a dvd, very informative and helpful. Looks like it's gonna be another week or so before the break in, rain and lower 40's all week:angry:

In the mean time I took my springs off and sprayed em, how they look?

With heat cycle the ambient temp is not as important. What is important is keeping the temp of the engine correct, while still running rich enough to keep the engine properly lubricated. You do not want to lean the engine to achieve break in temp, rather cut off the cooling to the head. Wrap it in a sock, or aluminum foil, and closely monitor the engine temps.

I would use an aluminum foils ( best to be silver as it reflects the heat back to the cooling head which would help to keep the temperature just wright for braking in.

It will be ok for break in, since you really don't want to run hotter than that during break in. But once you are tuning for performance 230 most likely will not be enough.

Yep.. If i were you, id get enough while its clean, aint gonna look like that in a bit:P

fail safe

sorry newbi with lots of questions...do you guys have fail safe chip installed?:n00bie:
