Has anyone had any problems with the brass spacer on the front of the clutch bell? I've gone through a bunch of them. The screw on the end of the crank shaft wears a groove in the brass spacer and then the worn spacer allow the clutch bell to shift forward. A new brass spacer only lasts me about 1/2 a gallon.

There are no shims except the single stock Z694 0.5mm one. I have an HPI 3-Shoe setup installed on my SS assembled as shown in this picture and it spins very freely. 86121 is the part that wears.

is there any play in the cb?

if there isnt this is what i would do..

remove part # z694
then place a smaller washer between 86121 and outer b021
make sure the smaller washer is smaller then the bearing.. so it only touches the racer.. i would move your cb a tiny bit but shouldnt hurt anything..

if you do have play in it then add the smaller washer and leave the z694 one

I really don't know what the brass spacer does, but how about get rid of it, and get a shorter screw and tighten down until it touches the bearing inner race? I haven't had mine wear out, but I only have 3 tanks through it.

That's what it does..It's a spacer..It takes up the space between the clutch bell and the end of the crank..

so a shorter screw would work? makes you wonder why they didn't do that in the first place. I know my Nitro MT doesn't have a spacer there....

Shorter screw won't work. The screw tightens up on the end of the crank. The bushing takes up the space between the clutch and the screw, as Mark said. The crank sticks out about a 1/4" past the clutch.

The bushing is why I haven't put mine back together. Mine started wearing where the steel washer fits against the brass. Think I'll try a bigger washer this time. LHS doesn't have anything, so I'm going to Lowe's and find some washers to replace the bushing. This should work? Anyone done that?

that's right, forgot it stuck out. how about a smaller diameter spacer? One that only contacts the inner race of the end bearing on the clutch bell?

thats why i told him to put a small diameter washer between them.. you guys are gonna confuse the poor guy

According to the majority at Savageracer this is a very common problem. The fix is to replace the brass spacer with a clutch bell bearing.

they run bushings in the Clutchbell?!?!?!
if so then hell yeah junk that thing and get a bearing....after that the OFNA shims are good for CBs that stick out further than the endbell and the Kyosho CB Shims are great for shafts that are longer than the CB......

no man!! ha check the link fishy
the shaft is longer then the cb.. they use a brass bushing to take up the space between the cb bearing and the screw washer

No. There are 2 bearings in the bell and a brass washer in front of the bell to take up the extra space on the crankshaft. Look at this picture.

the Nitro MT used needle bearings in the clutch bell. Switching to ball bearings were one of the first hop ups I did. Just didn't want that grease near my clutch shoes.
Just checked, and the MT2 still uses those blasted needle bearings!

I'd junk the brass bushings like the others said and use the OFNA shim kit. The brass is soft, you will be replacing it often.
