Bonus Time!!!

Gents,
Year end Bonus form my job has just arrived and now it's time to treat myself to a few new toys. On the RC forefront I'm lookin at two MT's either the Revo or the Savage. Both will fit into my price range but I want to make the choice based on the type of running that I plan to do.
I know we all like the speed factor and granted the Savage is fast however, I think from a handling perspective the Revo is more responsive.
We are in the process of constructing a local dirt track on some vacant federal land. The athorities are cool with it as long as we keep it clean. The track will have several jumps, dips, whoop di doos, bumps, burms and turns.
The longest straight is about 125 feet long but the rest will be very twisty and turny.
I'm a finess driver and can outrun the weekend bashers on the track with my MT-2 and it's new OS 18. I do loose it down the straights but get it right back and then some through the curves on the next lap.
So here's my delema...two great trucks with lots of hop-ups and spare parts available from most any LHS, money in my pocket and one decision to make.
I know someone out there is going to say buy both but I have a family and two other hobbies to support.
Help me out here guys...whatta ya think?

If your gonna get two, why not get one of each? The Savage could be the basher and the Revo for at the track. Unless I just misread it. For what your doing I would have to say go for the revo. Its more ready for the track than the savage. The Savage is going to be a tougher trough, but it does trade toughness for some handling. The revo isnt as tough (Still pretty tough though) but seems more suited for the track.

Can't do both 4u2nv. Got a boat and ski habbit to support!
I have driven them both and the Savage rolls over a lot easier. I know this can be rectified with a few on line orders but the Revo can be fixed for more speed just as easily... Cash is king!

If your going to race it get the Revo hands down, the only Savage that will beat it in a drag race is the 4.6. The Revo can take a beating too, not like the Savage but it is tough. Another choice would be a SS 4.6 with a LST shock conversion.

Thanks SMaxxin. The 4.6 SS is what I've been eyeing up as one choice.
The forcast looks good for the weekend so maybe I'll take another run with both before I plunk the cash down on one or the other. (I hope the savage and Revo dudes show up again).

pick the 1/8 scale buggy!!! If not, id go with the revo before the savage....for racing purposes

yeah if you are going to be running on a track and just want all out machine, get an 1/8 scale.....WAY faster and handle better than either truck.......or if you want something to be a lil more versatile get a truggy.....the jammin is nice, cost a lil more than savy or Revo but it will stomp on both of em......

RC / PF thanks for the info. I do have an RC10GT in my toy box, Well...Actually it's my son's but he does let me play with it occasionally. I havn't tried any truggy's so my knowledge is limited on their performance. I did recently run one of those German (forgot the make) 1/5 scale gas powered trucks. That was pretty cool but by the time you add a radio, Hi torque servos and the front disk brake kit your hitting a big $ range. Besides, Parts are limited for them at this time.
Right now I think I'm streamlined to either the Revo or Savage class trucks. Perhaps a good weekend run with either of the two will push me in one direction or the other.

Keep the info flowing, I'm weighing all the odds.

I'd say Revo, but that's cause I have one. On track, you can't beat it unless your running a truggy (LSP, MSR, Jammin'). The Revo is a durable basher and does even better with the RPM arms and steering blocks but no need to rush right out and by them. There's a couple Savage's that run at our local track and they do spend a lot of time rolling through the turns cause they have such a high cg.

I have only run the standard Savage (not the SS 4.6) but I have seen on the HPI Web site that they now offer a low CG vertical frame for the truck. I'm not sure if the SS comes with this option out of the box or not.
I know that the lower CG would do the Savage justice.

it still rolls more than a revo......it's just designed to be a basher.....closest thing to a true MT out there IMO.....if it MUST be between those I'd go Revo......race proven....and it sounds like you're gonna race it a good bit.......both are super fun but they have totally different purposes....

Thanks Plaidfish. Feedback on both have been good but I think the Revo might be edging slightly ahead. Sunday at high noon will be my decision deadline. By then I should have arranged a drive or two of each and a few good runs with my MT-2 which would leave me enough time to hit the LHS and get the goods.

If you have the capability to build a track, why not go with a 1/8th buggy?

EDIT: I see Plaid already mentioned that. Still, you mention driving a 1/5th scale, and some other things, but I would say try driving a 1/8th buggy. Many people never go back to anything else after driving them.

Buggies/tuggies not so popular here...Yet. I have no means to demo one unless one of our local track users have one. Thus far, nobody does. I don't want to invest into something i'm unsure of.

I guess it would be pointless to get one then if you have nobody to race against. Thats tragic, they are really fun machines to drive, and would anhilate a mt around most tracks.

I would say revo, however you may want to look at hpi's Hellfire, that may be what your lookin for but you said not to many buggies at your track i think its a truggy tho so idk dont know to much about it but its set up for racing and looks like it would handle like a dream. Between the two you listed i think the revo would be waht your looking for good handling, racing, etc.

The Revo absolutely outhandled the Savage in some one on one racing on our track. I did drive both and just felt that handling wise, Revo had the edge on the tight lines of our track.
So, set me get off the PC and crack open this box.
