i have a .21 tmaxx conversion with a .247 xtm. i just blew up my rear diff. i chewed up the ring and pinion gears.

what can i do to prevent this?

i heard of people shimming the diff? what are they shimming?

i also heard of using diffs with I bars. what is that?

any help will be appreciated thanks.

do you have a locker? if so that might be part the problem.

Well, it's kind of not possible with the stock diff case as it's relatively form fitting and doesn't leave much slop. The problem is when it's under torque, the plastic flexes and lets the pinion jump the teeth on the ring.

Not sure what an "I" bar is. Could be a reference to 4 spider gears on shafts inside the cup, but the traxxas diff cups don't have the room for it. So your stuck with two.

To make it stronger and shimmable, I went with integy alloy diff cases and collars. I also got alloy diff cups to house the internal spider gears.

If/when you rebuild your diffs, closely inspect your bearings, all 4 of them. As they get loose/sloppy, they will allow the diff to move/float around which causes mesh issues again with your ring/pinion.

This link is for a savage, but the purpose is the same:
