RC Driving Style
OK...I'm outside breaking in my truck...it starts fine and it idle fine...the temp started getting alittle hot so I turned it off to let it cool....put the roto-start back in to crank it...it cranked but died as soon as I took the roto out....I put the roto start back in and now all it does is spin freely.....What happend??? Did I strip the bearing?
 
Well it does sound like you stripped or cracked the one way bearing. It seems to be a very common problem when using the roto start. I am glad the SS did not use the rotostart system, or I would have pulled mine off immediately in favor of a pull start.

BTW, a more descriptive title will help you get more help, rather than "Big Problem"
 
Sorry to miss lead you on the title but I thought it was a big problem....pissed me off..I finally get the nice weather to break it in and what happens? it screws up.......Anyway I guess I'm ganna order a pull start. Will there have to be any mods for it to fit or just take the roto off and put a pull start on? thanks

Not only will you probably need a pull start, don't forget to order the one-way bearing as well. That would suck. You should probably pull it apart to be sure it's that and not something else. I think there are some gears in the roto-start housing that could have broken on you. If so, you wouldn't need a new one way, just a pull start assembly.
 
so let me see if this is right as I've never had to do this...........if they one way bearing is bad all the gears will have all the teeth?.......and if its the gears and not the bearing the gears will be messed up?>
 
If all your gears have all their teeth, most likely it is the one way bearing. If the gears are missing teeth I would try the pull start first. But it does not hurt to have an extra one way in your tool box.
 
More than likely. And if both of those things are ok, you have other problems. Hopefully it's one of those.

The only electric start I ever used or saw was the one on the 2.5 maxx. I hated that thing. More than likely because the 2.5 I had was garbage. Everything else I've had has had a pull start. I like having the pull start just for the simple fact that you can feel what the engine is doing. If it's flooded, you can tell. The other good thing about a pull start is that you don't have to carry around a starter.
 
I'm ganna order all new bearing and gears plus a pullstart just in case it happens again....Would this be the bearing and gears click here ? or would it be this click here ? does anybody happen to know a part number for a pullstart

I don't know for sure, but I think the more expensive one would be the whole assembly that mounts on the engine and the cheaper one would be the drive gears inside the housing. But like I said, I don't know for sure.

I think this is the one-way and pullstarter that you should use: Pull Starter

one way bearing

I have the savage ss with the roto start that i installed but its to torquey! i broke the one way bearing also. my lhs said to use the roto start backplate with a cordless drill that has variable speed. this seemed to work but its bulkier to carry around.
 
My father in law uses the roto start with a cordless drill. It works great and he hasn't had any problems with it at all.

hmmmmm.........I wonder if to much tourqe is what caused my problem.I'm ganna try the drill when I get the new bearing.
