um the size??
there is a conciderable diference in the "block" size.. also anything under .21 i think is "small block"

Ya, if you have the chance to see a small-block engine and a big-block engine side-by side, you'll notice a good difference in size. Big-block is .21+ small block is usually anything .18 or under, however, they do have some special "small-block" .21's and .26's for the t-maxxes tho.

Be careful because there are some big block .15's out there. There is also a smallblock .21 if I am correct. I think I saw it at the LHS when I was "thumbing " through the engine case.

Technically, a big block means the diameter of the piston is the same or larger than the stroke of the piston... if I'm not mistaken.

Supposedly, the TRX 2.5 is such an animal, the stroke is the same as the diameter, which means it's a square engine like the 1:1 world Clevland 400.

But in RC, it seems to have more to do with the actual "size" of the crankcase of the engine.

This is a photo of my Omega 21 (big block) and my OS 18 CV-R(x) (Small block) to give you a little perspective:

Notice how the crankcase is larger in pretty much every dimension on the top engine vs the bottom engine. The heads are about the same size, but that's just because the Omega is made for a buggy which I think requires a smaller head so it doesn't hit stuff on a roll over.

Isn't there some basic mounting footprints that need to be followed between the two?

I know they've been throwing big-block power into small block engines.

Here's a visual between the Picco .26 Outlaw and the stock TRX 2.5:

The small block engines have a smaller engine engine mount. The engine mounts on big-blocks are set further apart as shown in the above picture

thats what i thought, haha, thanx everyone. so the picco .26 max is a smallblock?? or are the engine mounts made to fit the big block in the max

I think new era makes one, but it makes the engine very very high. Otherwise, you get one of the "mid" block engines or a 21 conversion kit that includes a longer chassis to give you more room.

the picco .26 is a big block but there are 2 picco.26 engines...one fits the T-maxx and the other is a standard .21 mount....

I do believe you're right on that one. My Omega X2 drop in came with a new engine mount.

is the X2 the new one made for the maxx???
I have a P2 and it is sick power but it's a bitch to tune....

how can u tell if an engine is a big block or smallblock by just looking at it?

You lookin for a t-max .26 for the rusty now? Yes, it will fit that new era conversion... :smoke:
