Best upgrades for Savage X 4.6?

What's the best (non-HPI) wheels/tyres? Would love to see photos of everyone's..

I have hot bodies.. i think they are the best wheels for a savage... They are heavier .. but thats whats soo nice about it in my opinion.. they really feel like the truck isnt going to flip and it feels very balanced.

I've added a fuel filter & re-routed the fuel line to accommodate (so it's a little further away from the hot engine too). Will this work OK (as the line goes straight up from the fuel tank & unsure if the pressure is powerful enough for this configuration)?

As far as the direction of the fuel line going up and then down it wont matter. How ever in my opinion that exhaust manifold gets very very hot compared to near the head... How ever it does look like you have it far enough away from the manifold so it should be alright

I think it's just the angle of the photo. The fuel line isn't close to the manifold. Thanks for the advice

they are just zipties on the body clips with vacuum line slid around them.. then cut the head of another ziptie off and just put it on and you have a much easier way to take off your body clips!!

The wheels are Hot Bodies Revolutions the tires are meyhem tires. Unfortunately they sort of stopped making wheels for the savage so it took me about a week of searching on google... ebay.. and other rc online shops.. i had to order one pair from RC planet.. and the other on ebay.. originally i was going to get the UFO wheels but i just could not even find one pair for sale. They do show up some times but for the most part... just hard to find..


The only downfall in my opinion on these wheels is they actually for some reason used 14mm hex hubs.. the wheels are wayyyy bigger than the stock so that was a weird concept when i seen how much smaller the hub is.. but nonetheless they look great and i have no had any hubs strip or wear out.. and i bash the crap out of this thing.. it doesn't look like that anymore haha.

Love them! They make the Savage look much nicer! I'm after a set now (or maybe Tremors/Blasts). Any experience of using the Savage with Phaltline road tyres? Love the look of them, but want to know how they handle..

In your opinion, how do the bigger wheels/tyres affect handling & performance?

Generally they are heavier and wider ... so steering isnt as sharp.. How ever personally I've noticed the stock wheels seem to make the savage so squirrely.. it flips very easily with the stockers.. After putting the hotbodies on there the truck suddenly just felt like it was under full control... I'm not able to wheelie as often but for me wheelies arent that much fun. I'm just about having that control and stability witch is exactly what they offer.

I've also noticed that when i do jumps little or huge this truck just seems to feel stable even in mid air.

Plus, they just look SOOOOOO GOOD!!!

I've never used street tires on a savage or any of my past nitro trucks before.. For me it would be useless because i live just on dirt where i have no traction if i were to use them.

Also i personally put a 255 OZ servo on my savage after buying these wheels.. i didnt even try and see how it turned with the stock one because they just seemed pretty heavy for the stocker servo.. So i dont know how the stock servo can handle them maybe it can but i just bought one on ebay and its doing great !! heres a video i made of the truck when i got the wheels. and some upgrades i personally wanted to do.

I've ordered an Alturn 750MG digital high torque servo (Torque: 11.2kg/cm , 165 oz/in). Will that be powerful enough do you think?

Watched your video. I didn't catch the name of the extra springs you put on your rear shocks, if you could let me know, it'd be appreciated?

I think your servo should be fine with the wheels.

The springs were off of my traxxas jato 3.3.. they actually fit the shocks perfectly with no issues....

I just one day was wanting to find some how to stiffen the suspension alittle more and i was on a budget so i just found some of my extra jato springs and slid them right on with no issues what so ever. They do sort of fit snug around the shock, but that doesn't matter because its at the top. ultimately the truck still a year later has perfectly fine suspension with the same spring set up i have now and it does pretty large jumps on a regular basis.

I forgot what the jatos spring colors stiffness rates are but the ones i have on the savage now are with the red marking .. the ones i posted in the link are orange ones so I'm not sure if they are stiffer or softer..

Do you know what your tyre diameter is? The HPI Blast/Goliath combo are 178mm & I want to get something close to your size..

Hopefully my 7" Blast wheels & Goliath tyres should be here tomorrow. Also ordered some aluminium big bore shocks. Any suggestions what spring set I should use (currently have pink)? Not into major bashing. Just regular (newbie) driving

Gonna have a busy day as gotta fit new suspension arms, upgraded servo, steering bearings & upgraded servo saver spring as well (any guides/tutorials welcome!)...

Thats a nice combo they look great.. i actually happen to see my hobby shop actually have a full set of them and i was tempted to buy em. just didnt like how they have street tires personally.

well for the shocks if they are for the savage specifically . I'm sure if you look on ebay there will be a large selection of springs.. I personally dont know what to tell you because I've not upgraded my shocks yet.

Everything your doing should be pretty straight forward !!! just bust out that manual if you ever feel lost of miss placed.

forsure make a thread on your truck after youve finished all the upgrades, i would love to see your new wheels !!!

All those Hotbodies wheels are heavy and have weak centers. They pull the center out of the rim all the time. Also they are not interchangable with anything and most are discontinued. Break a rim or rip a tire and your screwed. Youll be better off with the HPI combo you ordered or the proline combos.

I've been running my hot bodies wheels for awhile now and bashing hard and i mean hard on them.. I've not had any issue with them stripping or breaking anything they are mounted on..


Also the weight is exactly what makes them nice to have... it really makes the truck feel more under control.

EDIT* They are interchangeable... they fit almost any MT that is 14mm hub capable...


Like i said .. I've ran these wheels, jumped very very large jumps and landed on one wheel on the corner of the vehicle with nothing more than a slightly bent turn buckle... These wheels a TOUGH and tougher than probably any wheels you can think of.

The stock wheel are way way to squirelly so after the wheels.

I had a set when I first started. I still have 2 sets of 8" fireballs rotting on a shelf. They are trash compared to any decent wheel/tire combo.

You have no idea how hard I've bashed these things and happy ... you probably did something that would break almost any wheel.... The fact is they are cool and awesome looking and handle great ... the stock wheels are wayyyyyy to squirlly and hard to actually have fun on.. the weight of the hot bodies wheels improve the handling .. you dont roll the truck as often, you have alot more control, and jumping is fun because the are perfectly balanced.

Dont let anyone scare you marcobrien I've had these wheels for a year and bash alot with not screw ups. i love them ill defend those wheels.. the plastic is good strong material....

if you ask me... jumped a skate ramp and launching 20ft up into the air and landing perfectly on the wheels and other attempts landing on one wheel from that drop... i wouldnt doubt that would even break the stock wheels.




*EDIT* those wheels are universal i know the tires arent. I'm saying all hot bodies wheels come with tires sooo you need certin tires yes but the wheels fit on anything.....

Stockers are stronger. Yea i did something extreme like jumping.pfft. I never broke a stocker. I just hated the look and size. I upgraded to Proline wheels. 1/2 the weight even the Bigjoes. Twice the strength and interchangable. You can put together endless combos.

As I said, Ill give 2 sets away, just pay the shipping. Bricks tied to the bottom will keep it upright too. Huge power robbers. Rotational mass is a killer.

The thing is with the smaller stock sized wheels is they dont offer control that well... too much wheelies .... and the heavier wheels make the truck bash like no other .. when that thing is womping down a huge him climb those wheels not only add clearance .. they add the best looking style... the stockers are hideously small.. its un acceptable the way they look and perform .. Id rather have control with some added weight..

Over all the weight is a plus, when i upgraded from stock to revolutions i wanst flipping around.. i was able to slam into a turn high speeds... and then jumping the truck stays level the whole time.. its a wonderful upgrade.

But see for me the hot bodies are decent wheels too. And for me personally i dont like those style of wheels. The only wheels i like on savages are the Hot bodies line of wheels and only 3 pairs of them.. the blasts the revolutions and the UFO's.. anything else is not do able for me.

I personally think the wheels i have the revolutions have served me well. I dont believe it will be stripping the hub any time in the future. I'm not sure what other people have had issues with them if they have but so far a year of bashing .... and the only thing thats happened to the wheels is i accidently spilled fuel on them with out noticing and the paint stripped off.. other than that.. the tires and wheels have been holding together with out breaking anything..

They are significantly heavier, but thats exactly what makes them desirable in my opinion. To me, the heaviness is a good thing that actually helps balance. After driving my truck with the stock and the revolutions .. i feel more in control and more balanced off of jumps.

In the end of it all we have our own taste and experiences that we have to drive us to avoid certain upgrades that others would do.

In my opinion... the OP did not make a mistake at all with the order he made.. And ill vouch for hotbodies and for as far as to say they will not strip or cause any breakage.
