hi, i should be stripping my f/r four spider mods soon in my savage, as i am putting a diff spool in the rear and using the four spider mod in the front with 5000 wt ofna diff oil as i was only using high temp tamiya grease before. anyway my question is what would be the best screws to put in my diff cups to hold them in????? would these be better then the stock ones??? http://store.savagess.com/product_info.php?products_id=436 any help would be great. also would it be a good idea to glue them in????

thank you g unit

I would recommend using machine screws vice the any sheet metal looking screw. The finer thread and larger number of threads should provide a better grip in the plastic diff cup and also provide greater resistance to stripping out the hole for the screw. Just my opinion.

When I did the four spider mod, I replaced the diff cups and went with machine screws as Sky has mentioned. When I took the stock diffs apart after destroying one on the tenth tank, none of the coarse thread screws were still tight. Since doing the mod and changing the screws I have had no further problems with my diffs. I have since pulled them apart again to see how they were holding up and they were all still tight.

Hi, I think I must be HPI's biggest consumer of diff gears......... I have searched and read most that has been written about diffs and gears etc, I use M3 x 20 countersunk machine screws, mine are stainless but that's just personal choice! Don't use Loctite or similar, it'll dissolve the plastic, I used CA glue to lock the screws just a dab on the end and screw them in.
Good luck!

I don't think I mentioned that I've got a .46 engine in my Savage, might be why my diffs keep self destructing.................
