I know most take it from the top where the plug is but I checked mine the other day juust under the cooling head on the crankcase I guess and it was 10-20 degrees hotter.
 
Most guys check it at the glow plug because that is the easiest place to check it with a body mounted. I prefer to check it at the bottom on the cooling head, but that is just me.
 
Cuz it is a big differnce and reason I ask is I just got a new lrp and just want to be careful. I know that temp dosent mean everything.
