Hey guys looking to upgrade the engine on my hpi savage x and have seen a bunch of different ones to choose from.. lrp has always been my go to engines but I’m looking to try something different and here are some I thought of trying

Lrp .28 - 160$
Sh .28 - 130$
Dynamite .28 - 105$
Or stay with stock 4.6 - 170$
I’m looking for any advice I can get as far as which one would be better

I have found the sh 28 pullstart for 127$$

The SH .28-8 is definitely better than the LRP .28 if nothing else other than it's got more ports and top end and a better carb. The XTec carbs are notoriously not very good - though supposedly they've fixed them recently, jury is still out on that one.

Finding one that is a pullstart though isn't always easy. It's much easier to find the .28-3, which is still a pretty strong engine, but it's not going to have the top end of the 8 port.

You could also look into Force engines. They're a little pricier, but they make some big bore, high rpm models such as the .36 and .38 if you're looking for an upgrade in power. Also, the HPI F5.9 is a rebranded Force .36 engine.

Losi 427 is very very similar to the sh 28-8

I have a ported big block .28 it’s no joke something that’s nasty as hell. Machine shop done. Never run it yet but trust me it’s going to be scary fast. You want specs on it PM me I’ll show you a different level
This is something you don’t want to play with. Any nitro guy would be crying. It’s got huge bore sleeved ect. Crank is custom built. It’s no lie best of the best.

I went with the sh .28! Now to find a good pipe to go with it. Any suggestions?
